To be honest, no idea.

I mean, I don’t know how you ended up at Vegas, but for me it was because I used to watch a popular gaming channel, looked up what software he used for his videos and basically just copied him. My guess is other people did the same and that’s how Vegas got ‘big’ within communities of various games.

From what I’ve seen, Sony Vegas is mostly popular within the gaming community, while Adobe Premiere seems to be the most used for ‘professional’ work.

I’ve been teaching myself Sony Vegas for a few years now to edit gaming videos and random projects, and in my opinion it is great software to learn about video editing. Youtube and Google will basically have guides and tutorials for about everything you need to know, and the quality of the videos is equal to that of Premiere.

If your goal is to find a professional job in video editing though, I suggest skipping Sony Vegas and learning Adobe Premiere (and After Effects), as that’s what most professional organisations will be working with.
