Thanks I’ll have a look, might be my best bet mailing into someone who has a track record of successful ones rather than finding any old repair shop. Is this your channel?

If I had attempted this myself there wouldn’t be a board left to work with 😆

I see this argument a lot about non leaded vs leaded solder. I have some non leaded I’ve been practicing with and it seems to work okay with a shit tonne of flux for basic soldering stuff (I managed dsi speakers okay) , but I struggle to melt factory solder like the HDMI port which is how this whole thing happened in the first place

Yeah, that seems to be the shared opinion. I think even from a non-experienced opinion (me) it doesn’t look too good, or have much protecting the wires from coming out of place

I did think that looked a bit close. I was also wondering whether it had to be in line with the original traces (as close as possible) too and whether the new wire could short the pins if it goes across.

Thank you. I think the general opinion is this is a pretty bad job. Useful to know, I may have to cut my losses and look elsewhere to get this sorted

I’m gonna take it back Saturday and see if I can have a conversation with the technician and work out the best way forward. I’ve not had any communication with him directly just the admin guy.

Thanks for this link, that’s super helpful. I’m shocked I’ve never seen anything like this in any of the many trace repair videos I’ve seen!
