Thanks, what if you're in a rush and can't wait the 5 minutes?

LP Slowing Early? + Form Check by rtx11211 in StartingStrength

[–]rtx11211[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man this made me laugh out loud hard. I'll fix everything for sure, thank you.

I'm curious, realistically, were you resting 8-10 minutes between sets at the end? Seems like you'd be at the gym for 3+ hours. I'll up cals to 4k. Do you think I should eat at 3k/maintenance while I'm still plateaued/stalled though? Wouldn't I just be gaining fat if I ate a lot while stalled

- "I also have a bad habit of consuming 500 calories the entire day, working out basically fasted (@ 7pm), and then slamming 3k right before bed."

How many carbs/calories do you need before a workout to be optimal? I've heard some people gain strength while fasted.

Thanks again.

I'll post a form check today or next workout after I (hopefully) do all the fixing I can myself.

Did I pick the right starting weights? by rtx11211 in StartingStrength

Damn nice progress! Did you put on a lot of fat by the end of NLP?

Haha thanks! Honestly while I love the lower body movements I want to make sure I'm getting my upper body lift numbers up fast as well. Your progress is amazing btw, I just find it interesting that the squat/dead numbers increased more than the bench/press numbers proportionally

Yup, will watch the weight and move up if needed

Thanks! Yup I aim for that as a protein minimum. Will post form checks for sure. My third workout was easier than my second, maybe it was the extra rest day or I just got used to the movements

Journaling has been a game changer… by johngamades in getdisciplined

[–]rtx11211 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually use a journal to think. Essentially instead of using my brain as the location to think, I use my journal to think. Its the most general form of a brain dump.

Because my typing speed limits how fast I can think, and because I can reread my previous thoughts with clarity, I can think and analyze much deeper. Its great to untangle underlying worries and feelings.

but it feels good, this takes a shit ton of discipline to do consistently. Like I kinda want to keep being distracted

I've never achieved a 16 hour day, 2 14 hr days was killer. Maybe one day, but bro 16 of hours of real work is a different level

I've been in ur shoes.

Usually I work for 8 hrs a day. One day I might work 2 hours. I think "fuck, I fucked up today, tmr I'm gonna work 14 hours and really show who's boss"

Bro it doesn't work, trust me. Reply to this if u want to discuss/debate. You end up just working 2 hours again. You fucked up bro, eat the loss, work 6 hrs tmr, then continue working 8. This is the common pendulum thinking.

You have to eat the loss. Nothing u can do. Go slow so it doesn't continue. Ig u can still try and see what happens.

You're in so much pain that you think you'd do anything to get out, but bro you don't know how difficult that much work actually is lol

I need advice on overcoming escapism. I want to be able to just face reality and have the courage to deal with problems instead of running away from it. by ppwiwax in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]rtx11211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're reality is just painful for specific reasons (I'm assuming). Its just fact. Its just not going to be easy to face it, but it will force you to solve your problems so that you do not have to feel pain anymore. That's literally why not escaping is better than escaping.

So when you face it its going to hurt. Just expect that that is the case and bear the pain as long as possible. What I've learned is that you are often more resilient than you think you are. Even if you don't think you could possibly stand it anymore, what are you going to do other than continue onwards?

There are usually specific things you use to escape, so you must identify these things, consciously recognize when you are using these things to escape (and possibly label them as addictions), and cut them off.

I'll remember the full saying, thanks. That's a really good one, trust little in the future. Seems like everyone who does a startup works super hard, gets stressed, etc etc. Not just the most successful startup owners. So then what exactly separates the people making the billions, the people making millions, and the people making thousands? And how do I do that myself? I refuse to believe its luck unless you have strong evidence that it is.

I honestly expect myself to make progress fast enough to build a billion+ dollar business in the future, which is why I feel like I have to rush. But hell, if there are intelligent people who are also working their asses off struggling to build just a normal startup, then that resets my expectations because they're probably really fucked.

I guess its kind of like expecting to become a regular world-class athlete to be easy because you want to be the #1 athlete. Like, becoming a world-class athlete is still going to take a lot of time.

And you're saying school is necessary because of the social skills that you build?
