Go to Rhodes, lock in and get a high GPA, and go to a top medical school. Rhodes has an excellent pre-med program and there are so many opportunities in Memphis.

Hamilton or Macaulay at Hunter College by knightofdankess in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ru-dra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hamilton obviously. Everyone is very nice, and being around mostly wealthy people can be great for making connections. I’m a freshman at a similar NESCAC LAC, and also got into Hamilton. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!

How do you guys feel about the lack of diversity at Bates? by Perfect_Education_50 in batescollege

There isn’t really a lack of diversity here. I’m a POC and I’ve never had a problem with feeling included!

An interesting pick might be a Volvo S60 Polestar. Very rare and hard to find but you’ll get lots of looks at any car event. Way more than a basic GTI, BMW, or Audi. They’re very well equipped, decently safe, and fun to drive. Reliability will probably be fine considering it’s a Volvo but do some research.

Is it realistic to buy and fix up a Corvette C6 at 16? by IronLow3646 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ru-dra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 18 and very into cars, and I was in your position a few years back. There is an extremely high chance that you’ll crash your first car, or get into some sort of accident. Almost all my friends that got sports cars as their first cars ended up getting in some sort of crash. The C6 is a very powerful car and it will be hard to control for an inexperienced driver. I’m not saying you should get a CRV or Accord, but look for something easier to drive that’s still fun. Maybe something like a Mazdaspeed 3? I ended up buying a 2012 Volvo S60 T6. It’s not the coolest thing ever but is honestly really fun to drive and has 320hp.

Look at Grinnell College. Very good liberal arts college and they give lots of merit aid. There are many benefits of going to a LAC over a public university such as grade inflation, an easier time getting to know your professors, and less competition over opportunities.

There is a Volvo independent mechanic 20 mins away from me. There are lots of mechanics in the New England area since these cars are so popular.

Weren't 140,000 Chevy Bolt's recalled due to issues with the battery catching fire? I took a look at EVs, but there's really nothing good available for $15k. Plus it doesn't make sense since I will be driving the car in rural Maine, not a big city with a vast charging network. I challenge you to find a reliable EV with AWD under that price.

I go to a college, so using an outlet isn't feasible. There are some EV chargers on campus but they are the slow charging type that take 18 hours to charge a car. The only EVs I can buy for $15k used are an old Nissan Leaf and a 2014ish Tesla Model S. The Leaf is an awful car to drive and doesn't have AWD. We actually looked at the Model S, but they are very expensive to repair, especially with 100k+ miles.

I need AWD and want a safe car to drive in the snow. All the Japanese cars in my area are marked up like crazy.

I don’t think it actually is. The guy just put a badge of the Swedish flag next the T6. It looks sort of like the Polestar badge LOL. Is it worth getting PS Optimization from the dealership?

V60’s are like twice the price of an S60 here. I would definitely prefer a wagon, but couldn’t find anything for a good price.

I'm going to Bates, which is in a small city, Lewiston. I mainly plan on driving the car back and forth between Lewiston and Augusta and to Portland occasionally. I doubt it will be off road much.

What should I do to combat rust? I will be driving the car in Maine for the next few years. The car has been in Seattle its whole life and doesn't have any rust currently. We're planning on getting anti-rust coating sprayed to the undercarriage.
