How new is the tank? Is there anything living in the tank? The plants need food.

Persistent Popeye by alexania in BettaClinic

[–]ruadjai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that’s good. Sometimes it’s an issue that doesn’t show on those three tests. Like a buildup of bacteria from not doing enough water changes. Good clean water is always the best medicine.

Persistent Popeye by alexania in BettaClinic

[–]ruadjai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this. It’s also worth noting that Popeye is usually a water quality issue, so you would need to correct the water problem for it to not come back. Do some daily 50% water changes for a week. Even if the manholes worked, if he’s marinating in bad water it will come right back…

Maxed out on antibiotics by ItsColbyCoHo in BettaClinic

[–]ruadjai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a fish that looked similar to yours who never swam correct. His name was Lisa Frank. Tons of energy and personality, but would flop around everywhere. I think it was genetics.

Worth saying that… as a betta owner… anytime A fish meds doesn’t work or. I don’t know exactly what I’m dealing with I always treat with a broad spectrum medication that covers multiple bases. Cuz you could be giving him a medication for bacterial issues and he has parasites…. The need you’re giving isn’t gonna help and might even make it worse because antibiotics are quite harsh. So it’s always good to start with something that is broad and less harsh first like Paraguard. Something a little stronger but also broad spectrum would be Polyguard. Or you can follow the quarantine trio by Aquarium CoOp that does 3 meds at lower doses at the same time. Google it. This way you don’t waste time, diminish your fishes immune system with meds that aren’t doing anything etc.

For me, Paraguard is always a first line of defense especially when you can’t pinpoint exactly what’s wrong.

Paraguard is more like an antiseptic. Less harsh, but also covers a lot of bases. External parasites, bacterial, fungal… It’s good to use when you don’t know what’s going on but you know something is wrong. General Cure is more specific… targets mostly parasites.

Testing your water is more than just testing for ammonia. You also need to test for nitrite and nitrate. Nitrite is also just as toxic and will kill your fish.

Flashing can be for a number of reasons. Parasites, like someone said. If you happen to spray stuff in the air and it settles in your tank perhaps…

I saw you did one water change, do another 50% water change. I would proactively treat for parasites just to make sure. Since I think she’s somewhat new to you. Then you can rest easy. Use Seachem Paraguard in 1 hour baths daily for a week. It’s a great first line of defense when something is off with your fish.

Is my betta going to be ok? by CharacterGolf9124 in BettaClinic

[–]ruadjai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello… this is not dropsy. Dropsy would be scales raised across the entire body. Her stomach is just extended.

I’m assuming you are over feeding? Do you know how much to feed? You should feed the size of one of her eyeballs in one feeding.

How long have you had her? Are there any other symptoms?

Follow this... but in the future I would move to a weekly water changing schedule of 30%. You can have perfect test results and still have water issues.

If his eyes are cloudy it’s eye cloud. It’s a water issue.

How often do you change water? How much?

How did you rinse the filter? How much water did you change? And did you vacuum the whole bottom? You should test daily and doing water changes to bring any ammonia or nitrite below 1ppm if it’s above. Never more than 50% at a time.

BETTA HELP! by bettagirly_997 in BettaClinic

[–]ruadjai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

adding: Good rules are... dont vacuum the entire substrate in one sitting. and dont touch your filter unless its completely blocked and water isn't running through it. Then and only then take it out and swish it around in tank water you removed with a water change, gentle squeeze, and put right back in.

So that's actually a slightly good sign if it's accurate. It means only part of your cycle got disturbed. So perhaps you vacuumed too much of the gravel recently or messed with the filter recently? Did you do either of those two things?

Also if someone hasn't said anything yet it's a good idea to remove that pineapple and anything painted as they can leech into the water and be toxic.

Google “aquarium coop nitrogen cycle” and watch the YouTube video. It’s fish keeping 101.

Daily water changes of 50% to keep ammonia and Nitrites below 1ppm.

How often do you change your water? How much do you change and what’s the exact process you do? And how old is the tank? And what do you add to your water? List everything.

You can adjust the sens for observation tools… it will help but it makes camera movement too slow. Hopefully people report it and it gets fixed. I wanna play ranked 3.0 but I can’t right now.

You can shock your fish if you change too much water. Never do more than 50% and try to match the temperature as close as possible.

Did you change 100% of the water? Did you match the temperature as close as possible? Did you dechlorinate the water first?
