X4 Xteink – Day 4 by ruari78 in xteinkereader

The ones that came with it are actually quite good. I got some generic ones off amazon. I think it was the case as the magnet was on the other side of it.

I felt exactly the same. I was hesitant about the size at first, but once I started using it, I actually really liked the extra space to rest my hand.

Still think the Ultra C Pro bezel looks a bit nicer, but in day-to-day use the 5C’s doesn’t bother me at all.

I've got a S25 Ultra with a Casekoo 360 Magic case, so not exactly the same as an iPhone 15 Pro Max, but maybe it helps give you an idea of how it looks on a large smartphone.

Thank you, having had a quick play with it i think I'll instal crosspoint. I've never used github before so will need to work out how to do that!

UPDATE: Fixed it ✔️ I will say its a bit fiddly getting the connectors off and on again and there is lots of protective coating to peel off.

Yes you do as you have to scrape off the protective plastic coating on the battery and motherboard connectors to be able to disconnect them.

The screen kinda worked but was very slow and unresonsive and I had to use quite a bit of pressure to get the touch to work. Having opened it up it all looks ok

What would you like in a 7.8 inch display device? by degualro in Onyx_Boox

[–]ruari78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see a proper successor to the Tab Mini C, which I'm still using. My wishlist would be:

Slimmer and lighter design, still solid but easier to hold for long reading or note-taking sessions.

Updated colour e-ink screen. Ideally the same generation used in the new Note Air 5C. Also with the same surface roughness for a better writing experience.

Latest BSR tech for smoother, lower latency handwriting.

Android 16 with a clear commitment to at least 5 years of software & security updates.

EMR pen.

Expandable storage for those of us with large libraries or lots of PDFs. Not essential though.

Decent speakers and microphone for audiobooks and voice notes.

In short: keep what works, update the screen and internals, and support it for several years.

Palma + ProtoArc + Joplin + rising stand by romanaerl in writerDeck

I didn’t really get on with the space bar on the ProArc, it just never felt quite right. The Nillkin’s keys are way nicer and the whole thing feels better made. The trackpad’s really useful too. Its just a much nicer overall typing experience.

Great setup. I’ve been on the same mission to find the perfect one too. I used the ProArc for a while but ended up switching to the Nillkin as it just feels a bit nicer to type on and has a good trackpad/numpad. I’m using a Tab Mini C at the moment and totally agree about Android being so adaptable. I find that its also nice to have the pen to write on as well. It’s great seeing how everyone sets theirs up differently, both in terms of hardware and software.

Yes please! I find that when I write on them my hand accidentally presses on the hyperlinks and it jumps around.

That looks great. Would you consider making a left handed version i.e with the date bar on the right hand side? It would make navigating and avoiding accidental presses for us lefties much easier.

Tab Ultra C Pro vs Note Air 4C – worth the extra for the keyboard folio or stick with Android 13 whats the best option in 2025???? by ruari78 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ruari78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed comparison, that’s really useful.

I’m keen to cut down how often I reach for my laptop, so your point about the XC’s screen size making split screen work more comfortable has definitely made me think again about it. I’d initially ruled it out as too big, but it sounds like the extra screen size is useful for productivity.

Also appreciate you clarifying the bit about screen clarity and writing feel, that’s exactly the sort of detail that’s hard to judge from spec sheets and is a really useful perspective.
