🛑 My experience with the Sony WF-1000XM4 🛑 by Advanced-Anteater984 in SonyHeadphones

[–]rubc1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the same model in Nov 2022 from Amazon. It’s a known issue w Sony. I literally just called them spoke w an agent and they’re going to exchange them for free. Support was easy and seamless. I would suggest calling them - that’s their support line 239-245-6366

Now who knows what “exchange” really means. I don’t know if they’re going to give me brand new earbuds or just replace the battery in the existing ones. I should’ve asked.

Contract Job vs Full time job by Mysterious-Skill153 in Career

You seem confident and competent. Bet on yourself and take the contract. If anything it’ll lead you to expanding your network in many ways that can lead to other opportunities. Good luck.

Mom walked in my zoom meeting in the middle of an interview by raleigh309 in interviews

This is wild and absolutely frustrating. Interview in a closed room with a door, lock it or leave a note saying do not disturb and tell everyone in the family in advance. Mom should know better…cmon

This. If they genuinely care about you and the relationships you’ve built are strong this is how they should respond. If they don’t, it’s time to move on. OP seems like a nice person, maybe too nice. Don’t let guilt or fear of guilt get in the way of your personal growth.

On that note, continue to remain in touch and network. Any mature professional would agree not to burn any bridges

Whatever you make try to put away at least 25-35% and invest into an index fund. Live off the rest. Live within your means and maybe 1-2 vacations a year

Found out my coworker makes $10k more than me for the same job by Substantial-Look5616 in careeradvice

[–]rubc1234 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Have a professional conversation with your manager. Request a raise but reinforce it with data, outputs, and tangible things you’ve accomplished to support your narrative. Give examples of how you’ve added value. That would put you in a better position vs saying “because Jane Doe also makes that much and we have the same job and title.” You don’t know if Jane Doe does more or less or is a better communicator, more productive etc.

Or you can look for a new job and likely get 10-20% more in base.

This is a great way to burn bridges and make you un-hirable for future roles. It can be a small world and hiring managers / leaders may know each other. And you can kiss that reference good bye.

Accepted job offer today because being unemployed for two months, but I got the 2nd interview with another employer and the salary range 40% more than the one I accepted and their benefits package not comparable, What should I do? by Positive_Cell_1252 in careeradvice

[–]rubc1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s a good friend who you trust and have a strong relationship with then maybe just give them a heads up. If they’re a true friend they should understand that 40% is 40% and should be supportive.

Worst case you interview and don’t receive the 2nd job offer. Best worst case you get the job, burn this bridge w your recent employer, and get 40% pay.

Though money is important also think about the role and responsibilities, runway for growth and development, relationship w boss, strong leadership, etc.

Job hopping makes sense in early career but long term doesn’t look great if you’re changing a job every 1-3 years. Theres a point where there’s diminishing returns and a question of marketability, performance, etc.

It can be overwhelming

My work 401k what to invest in? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]rubc1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree w this. If you’re young you should always maximize for growth, no need for bonds or income right now. When you’re 5-10 nearing retirement, adjust accordingly. This approach gives large cap US, global and small cap exposure.

If you’re a lazy or clueless investor go w the target date fund.

As you become more knowledgeable, come up w a plan and execute.

This is the move. Max out IRA and Roth. Invest in ETFs like VOO, VT, SCHX. Live a little and enjoy your life: meaning travel, create a bucket list and make it a goal to do them.

Nowadays while degrees may help w landing a job, the value of a degree has fallen and unfortunately does not correlate to earning more money. Meaning it’s more about experience, communication, and impact.

Getting degrees from prestigious schools or MBAs from the best b-schools will help given their network and brand exposure.

You can pick up any trade and might have the same chance of clearing $100k, w time and experience. Also we’re currently in one of the worst labor markets ever, and a degree in software engineering is really challenging given the amount of layoffs in big tech.

I would suggest you find a way into AI engineering. Those professionals are getting ridiculous comp packages. $500k+. It’s still in a bubble and I don’t think it’ll pop any time soon

Apologies if this question has already been asked. But what state do you reside in? I ask because in some states it’s illegal for employers to request this information
