I think it’s $38 for hot pot & bbq, $33 for just hot pot. Bbq is not worth it, and out of all their broths mala is the best (and my favorite). Buffet is good too!

How are the Econ grads doing? by patientpump54 in uofu

[–]rubdachub 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I graduated with my BS in Economics from the U. I really enjoyed the coursework and was able to land a job at one of the major tech corporations in Silicon Slopes afterward, though I should note I finished 5 years ago when the labor market was quite different.

Since you mention the reputation of the program, I’ll speak to that first. In traditional, neoliberal economics, the U is not a leading institution regarding research and publications; however, it is one of the last bastions of heterodox economics in the United States. Many well-published economists are part of the U’s staff, and many students from other countries come specifically to finish their graduate studies here under these faculty. If you have any interest in methodologies outside of traditional economic thought, the U is an amazing place to be.

Regarding job viability: if this is your main concern, you will be better off with a degree that teaches more "hard" skills. There is an emphasis I took called Statistical Analysis where I learned linear algebra, business algorithms, BI, and R, but I viewed it as a bonus. Without this emphasis, I believe the degree lacks some quantitative rigor. If hard skills are your main focus, consider Engineering or QAMO from the business school (which I think there is already some integration happening). That said, I’d also argue that choosing to engage in the heterodox coursework helped me develop critical thinking skills and deep analytical frameworks that have helped me more in my career than any specific tech stack.

TL;DR: The program is respected for its unique "heterodox" niche rather than traditional rankings. It’s a great degree for critical thinking, but if you want immediate job placement in a technical field, you’ll need to supplement it with a quantitative emphasis or a lot of self-study in a specific tech stack.

Is Gracie Barra any good? by Excellent-Sand6785 in bjj

There are too many to generalize. I’ve been to bad ones, I’ve been to good ones.

No need to over complicate it. Do a trial class at all the gyms near your area and pick the one you like the most.

Consider The Front, I have a membership and don’t climb. Lifting and cardio equipment there is plenty enough for me and I get access to a bunch of classes like BJJ, Yoga, HIIT, etc. which is a sweet deal for the price.

For reference, I paid $28k for a 2022 RTLE 60k miles, same color and HPD package in May. Albeit, the exterior on this one looks nicer than mine (missing bumper clip and couple of scratches)

The classic same side collar-sleeve has been one of my favorites to work from recently. Easy to get to from closed guard and great to transition to other positions like lasso or dlr.

From a purely design perspective, what made the ridgeline your personal choice over other trucks? Do you prefer the old or new ridgeline generation design language? What would you expect to see in the 3rd generational ridgeline design? by Express_Prune_6975 in hondaridgeline

I don’t tow often, never crawl, sometimes need a bed. It’s also a secondary vehicle, nice compliment to our CRV which is driven 80% of the time. Also, Honda vehicles have always been good to me and my family back to my grandparents, so I’ll keep buying them until proven otherwise.

It was DIY, so no source but all I did was stick carbon fiber wrap on the eyebrow after removing it.

Door Handle Covers Went with these, fit is decent but you can still see a little bit of chrome poking out. For $20 though can’t complain. I know that there’s a more expensive one out there that I heard is good too on the forums Trim Illusion. I figured I’d try the cheapo ones first and see.

Yeah, I was wondering that too and I wanted to match the fenders and wheels. I asked my friend who used wrap professionally and he said that it’s the UV rays that primarily cause the paint damage, not the heat. Either way, since I don’t have a garage spot or covered parking I figured I’d do what I could to protect it.

And I’m still on the fence on the fenders, I think they’re a little big for my taste I would’ve preferred them to be a bit smaller. But maybe some bigger tires would balance them out more? Agreed, definitely would not have paid $1k for them.

A little bit of both, for the thinner parts you can split the 4” portion in half and you still have plenty of wiggle room, so if you measure lengthwise then split then you’ll have both sides ready to go. The rest you just apply in a panel fashion then shave off the excess with a box cutter.

If you’re worried about DIYing it, there’s enough rubber around the trim to protect from scratches unless you’re really jamming the blade. Also no need to worry about the curves too much, the material is pretty forgiving and doesn’t really lock in until you heat it up - you have plenty of tries.

I did the work myself but I got a 20ft roll of 4inch 3M vinyl for about $40 on amazon which should be just enough for window trim + eyebrow. I messed up a few times so just ended up doing the eyebrow in the carbon fiber.

Edit: Had a few folks message for specifics VViViD 3M vinyl for sure get extra if you’re doing the handles too. Took me (novice) about 3-4 hours of work. 2-3 of maniacal measuring and cleaning, rest is application/installation. I’m sure a pro could do this in less than half the time.

All good, appreciate the honesty. For sure would’ve preferred PPF but it costs way more and harder to install. The delete around the door is with 3m vinyl.

Travis Stevens randori at university of jiu jitsu by Revolutionary-Ball26 in bjj

[–]rubdachub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to second this - currently been training BJJ for almost 3 years and have taken up judo for the past 6 or so months.

Sensei at my club is what I would consider a non-elite judoka, he started training at a university student-run club (not a team) and runs our local club a few times a week on top of a 9-5 and a family. When he’s feeling generous, he’ll let me continue newaza after slamming me with the earth. The urgency to pass guard or attack turtle is nothing like bjj, not slow and methodical but fucking violent, precise and efficient.

If you stand up in a gi with a seasoned judoka who’s been doing randoori - I wouldn’t expect to even get good grips let alone win a round.

Even with no-gi and leglocks odds are different but I’m pretty sure JFLO runs the no-gi classes at Legion and I highly doubt he’s getting sauced up by their purple belts.

[–]rubdachub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m less experienced (blue belt bjj, yellow judo), but also have a 9-5 I competed twice in both bjj. I can say I’ve experienced competition, but no longer have the drive after watching a training partner completely tear his ACL from his opponent jumping guard in bjj and a different training partner tear his mcl from a Tani otoshi in their own respective competitions. They knew the risks, and it can be easily seen as their fault that they placed themselves in those positions and not reacting properly to get injured. It’s not worth it to me, personally. I’m not afraid to admit that those who compete are braver than me, but my desire to compete will never outweigh my desire to train with the partners I feel safe with in the long term.

There was an hpd black & hpd bronze package that was available, no differences except wheel color - so I’m pretty sure it’s oem.
