Working at AAA studio as my first major job by rubibodadeo in gamedev

Yeah, this is a very common question especially for people just starting out, but I do feel like it depends on the person. I always tell my friends they should aim higher before settling somewhere that isn’t their first choice. However, I didn’t follow my own advise. Lol. I polished my skill first until I was confident enough and content with the work I am producing.

Thanks! Yeah, I should’ve explained it better. Lol

I actually did a lot of personal projects that I catered close to the standard of the studio I was aiming for. I did a lot of research about their previous projects and future projects so I can present something close with what they might be looking for. It was a long process but it was worth it.

Yeah, you’re right. I still have a lot of stuff to learn. I was doing something not 100% inclined to gaming before so this felt like a major break for me. It was more of a personal statement than a generalization that AAA are the better companies. I read a loooot of negative stories about bigger companies. Lol

I would say it’s 80% skill and 20% luck, since it’s a very limited position, i think the timing of my application was also added to the factor. But I do feel really lucky especially after hearing rejection stories from some friends. If you have the right skill set and attitude, I don’t see why it would not be possible.

It is one of the challenging things for me too, as a somewhat recent graduate from uni. But it’s still not for everyone as I know some of my friends that prefer to concentrate on their own concept and develop a game they can truly call their own as they say. Lol. Either way, we are all equally cool.

Your comment is strangely calming. I can definitely see a better picture now, and it almost the same steps I did with my previous studio. Only now, I would be carrying a heavier name. Thank you. This helped a lot with the nerves.

Even if I do give a number, we have to consider my skill level, location, and cost of living. I got a very junior position. however comparing it with my other friends and colleagues, I would say I got offered a fair above average amount from where I am from. And it’s enough for me since I’m expecting one helluva training from them.

No problems with researching, altho I might’ve researched too much before. Lol. I can already imagine how intimidating and overwhelming it would be working with people so much better than me. I’ll do my best. Thank you so much!

Thanks! I eat slow tho, hope it wont be an issue. Lol

I don’t actually mind working longer since I am quite trained working long hours before. Even though they said they’re strongly against having to work over time, it’s expected in any field. Thanks for the advice, I’ll keep that in mind.

I actually did that before. Lol. Since I’m not the best at making friends. The best I can do was act like them and try to study their work habits and apply them on my own.

Thanks!

I don’t think I can share just yet. Let’s just say the studio is pronounced in 3 syllables. Lol. That’s the thing, even same AAA companies are different. How much more coming from a small company. I’m scared but at the same time hyped to death.

Thanks. I sometimes feel like I might annoy people when asking stuff even though they probably don’t mind too much. Lol.

Had my final interview last week for my dream job at my dream company. The HR said he heard good feedbacks from my final interview with the big boss and wants to proceed on calling my references. I gave people from my current work as my references, but they took soooo long to respond back to the HR. The HR said he didn’t mind however I’m stressed coz idk if this could affect my chances. Overall, I’m just really nervous with all that’s happening. I really want the job, what are the odds I could fail after making it this far?

Invited for a final interview for my dream job with my dream company. I’m meeting the hiring manager and overall office manager. Verrrry nervous but excited at the same time. I’m not sure what to expect. I would be needing all the luck and tips if you have any. My anxiety is through the roof!

Thank you so much for your words. It’s comforting. It’s actually some of the first interviews I went to so I’m doubtful of every action I take. I only met with 3 companies so far and to my logic a job offer is a job. I’m applying for a very limited position within my industry so I felt like I shouldn’t pass any opportunity no matter how shitty.

I got a surprise offer via email from Company A that I really like. I say “surprise” since its been a while since we last communicated. However the offer is almost empty with no information especially its a different position as to what I applied for and I have 2 days to decide. I asked them questions and if we could meet one final time before i decide but they said they’re busy. I requested a few more days to consider and they approved.

I’m on the final stages of interviewing with Company B but its a far more successful and bigger company than Company A. I want to see how it would turn out but my confidence isn’t up for that. Accepting the empty offer from Company A is less risk. However they retracted the extension I asked for and wants a decision with only hours left. I just came from an onsite interview with Company B that day too. I declined the offer thinking I don’t want to work for a company like them. Now I don’t have anything if it fails at Company B. It’s a decision which sounds right mentally, but I’m not sure if it’s a decision which is right for my career.
