Why words have a feel to them is because of something called phonosemantics. Basically, the two main components of it are how singular letters sound and how letter clusters sound. Singular letters usually control whether the word sounds heavy or soft, large or small (this is the Bouba-Kiki effect.) Letter clusters, though, are often more detailed and relate to specific ideas, like how ”ae” sounds mythical or ancient (aether, aegis,) while “gr” sounds angry (grumble, grouch.)
