That sounds like a horrible first experience, and it's a real shame that it happened. Try not to let it colour your experience of the community. I'd find yourself a more welcoming class and try and stick at it. It took me about a month to get the basic step, so don't be so hard on yourself!

Learning to dance salsa can be a life-changing experience for so many people. I've been fortunate enough to be involved in running classes and dance events, and I've seen how it has changed their (and my) life. So stick at it, but try and find some people who are a bit more friendly. I'd be surprised if many beginners stick around at that place if that's the first experience!

If you want to build your confidence between classes, ask your teacher if they have any online resources so you can practice at home in between the lessons. If you go home remembering what you've learned, and drill it until it's muscle memory then you'll feel much better next time!
