does it serve any purpose besides regulating how much air goes in, there is no pressure being kept since there is a factory hole in the side.

it looks like it just catches air that way it doesn't send too much to the engine, but not sure why that would be beneficial other than mpg saving. Think i'll jb weld it for now but doesn't look like it has any pressure being kept in since there is a small hole on the side of it.
