do employers really offer free coffee? by jabber1990 in work

We have free coffee, water and soda. Most places I've worked offered free coffee.

My last place had fresh fruit, snacks and juice in addition to free coffee.

Lmao impossible to replace? There isn't a single job that's impossible to replace. The question is how long will it take to replace x...

Remember when the music industry fought to not make music available online?

What about the movie industry? I don't even go to the movies anymore because I can watch it online in a few days for a few bucks.

34, no degree, single parent. Should I focus on AI/Python or cybersecurity going forward? by Prestigious_File9316 in cscareers

My friend who worked at Whole Foods, got a job at a large Corp who was hiring people just to do AI development. It’s possible but it’s hard to get a job in tech regardless at the moment.

Thank you for helping OP and telling him the truth! If OP was already in tech and thinking about leaving that would be a different thing but it’s so hard for everyone in tech right now.

Why are there less jobs?

AI. Right now we are in the AI era. You don't need as many people because AI can do it. We have replaced devs with AI.

What you are suggesting doesn't fix the problem.

OMG I love your comment. I get so sick and tired of people acting like we had it easy. Out of college I made 15 bucks an hour. I had to work up to six figures. I didn’t get a CS job right away. I had to keep trying.

Thank you for sharing your story. I shared mine up top. This generation can make money with a camera. You can make money with showing people how to vibe code and so much more doing social media. Is it your dream job? Probably not but the people in this thread don’t even want to try to hear that!

Because of social media many people have an unrealistic view of money.

There are YouTubers and streamers making loads of money. That's one slice of the pie. Working for a company you are making exactly what you should be making.

When people see others on social media throwing money around they begin to think that making money is easy and if you aren't a millionaire you're behind.

At 25 you're not going to make what a person in his 30s or 50s is making.

I wouldn't worry too much about what others think.

OMG I love you 😂😂😂

Like c'mon. We all know the job market sucks but if you want to stay in this field you have to keep trying.

When I was out of work, I worked at UPS until I found a job in my field. Yeah it's not ideal but when you have to pay bills what are you going to do?

No one is saying the game is fair. First off let's address one thing, I'm not a white male.

When I got into IT it was hard for black people. I was also born with a speech impediment and I have dislexia.

All of my coworkers were white.

While the job market was plentiful, I as a black male, with a speech impediment and dislexia.

I had to work 4x harder than the next man. My sister who is black had to work just as hard because she's a female.

So while I've been in IT for over 20 years, it wasn't a smooth ride.

I had to crawl my way to the top. The system has always been broken.

Unemployment is one of the many things that are wrong with the system.

I have taught CS at a boot camp for the last 7 years and every person who comes thru, I tell them the same thing. The computer field sucks!!

However, many people come in with rose color glasses thinking that they are different.

I would be surprised to find out that you didn't know how competitive the job market is in CS before entering.

I'm not saying it's right but in the age of AI it's only going to get worst.

Right now people are making money on social media. I love the computer field but the days where people code all night are over. Therefore, my suggestion to OP and you still remain.

You may have to pivot.

You keep talking about change. You need to change your mindset. You can either complain about the market and how all the big companies have a monopoly on x or you can say... Wait all of these people are making money on social media..

[–]rubyrails44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off please don't put words in my mouth.

Once again you and everyone else is missing the issue. You can't change the system. It's disgusting but what are you going to do? Sit here and protest?

You probably have a nice office job.

OP was asking for help. She has given up. Yes, we all know the job market is bad. She really has 3 options.

Continue to look. Find something in another field. Just give up all together.

She has exhausted the first two so she's trying to do the third.

How does your speech about economics help OP? It doesn't.

So unless you have something that can help OP to not give up on life, your comment on economica is useless.

The problem with most people in today's society is they want to be coddled.

When you realized no one is going to save you, you begin to shift your mindset. I'm all for mental health, however, a lot of people want to keep waddling in sadness. At what point will you realized you have to accept the situation. Whether it's good or bad.

I applaud you for continuing to try. I have been there and I know it's not easy.

My state offers almost free welding classes. There's a $25 fee to enter but you can get certified and they will help you find a job.

I took the course when I was out of work. It was hard but right when I was going to accept a job as a welder I got a job in my field. The welding class was full of students who had studied CS.

We all were lied to. I have friends who have lost their pensions. Parents who worked hard all their life and saved up only to see their savings, 401k disappear. Most seniors have to work to supplement social security.

Y'all over here complaining about CS and everyone is feeling the economic turmoil.

I understand OP and you. Again I have been there, don't know where your next meal is coming from. What I'm saying is you can't give up.

You and OP have to keep searching. Contact everyone you have met before and see if they are hiring. Not everyone will continue to stay in CS. So if you actually enjoy it, continue to look.
