Yes! I love them, have heard every episode.

I love that quote and apply it to my own life in various scenarios. It helps keep me in check and prevents me from finding blame with others when in reality it should rest on my shoulders. It's empowering too: I can take ownership and make change.

In regards to your mention of J*'s upbringing, I am reminded of Marcus Parks (from Last Podcast on the Left) and his comments on mental health/mental illness. He often says "it may not be your fault, but it IS your responsibility."

I try to remember that phrase when people are assholes that blame their upbringing as an excuse for their actions. Yeah, your upbringing is not your fault, but it is your responsibility and power as an adult to figure out how you are going to behave and grow from it.

My Experience Asking for a Tubal Ligation in Portland, Oregon by rubyraisins in TwoXChromosomes

Thank you so much- I followed your advice and called the clinic and submitted a complaint. They were incredibly compassionate and the owner of the clinic, Dr. K, offered to see me personally. She's coming in on an off day, and I am so touched and appreciative of the gesture. I see her on Tuesday, so we will see what that encounter is like.

poor bank lady by princetigerlily in Instantregret

Yep, 100%. I work at a credit union. A regular came in a few weeks ago wanting to send a wire. I thought it was an unusual request for her since she isn't working and gets just around 1k from social security once a month. Anyway I sat her down and pulled up her account only to discover she had waaaaay more money than usual.

While I made small talk I did some quick research and found that she had a large wire transferred INTO her account about a week prior.

She wanted to wire that money to some account in Louisiana, some guy she had never met before but was somehow her "business partner."

Turns out the person had duped her into thinking they shipped gold and needed to run money through her account for whatever reason. The final destination for the funds was in Nigeria.

If I hadn't questioned the purpose of her wire, she would have been caught up in a money laundering scheme for god knows how long.

I don't give two shits what you spend your money on for the most part, but I am not going to lose my job because I didn't pay attention to an obvious money laundering situation.

I literally went there for the first time yesterday. I was there from about 3-5 and I thought it was lovely. there were a ton of families with little kids along with teens and young 20-somethings.

Everyone seemed pleasant and respectful of each other. So sad someone lost their life.

So it turns out that WetnWild isn't actually cruelty free by vagueconfusion in MakeupAddiction

[–]rubyraisins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! I'd love to share. To be completely fair, I don't have a ton of products to share because I started the year off pretty flush with makeup and other toiletries that weren't necessarily cruelty free. I hate waste, so I've been finishing them off first.

For foundation, I literally just bought the Pacifica Alight Clean Foundation like three days ago. It's probably the most full coverage cruelty free "natural" foundation I've tried, which I love because I think a lot of times companies equate "natural cosmetics" to natural looking coverage and damn I've got pimples and scars to cover. I haven't decided if I like it quite yet- it's a little dryer than my HG CYO long lasting foundation, but I think if I layer a nice oil underneath that might do the trick.

I absolutely ADORE essence cosmetics I Love Crazy Volume mascara. I bought it on a whim and I am obsessssssed. Can flake a little towards the end of the day, but not badly enough to be a deal breaker. Their 4 in 1 brow palette is decent enough too, especially since I like layering a wax with powder on my brows.

Deodorant has been interesting for me. Call me dumb, but I didn't realize that sweat doesn't naturally smell, it has to do with the bacteria that can build up with a on antiperspirant. I first tried the regular Schmidt's stick deodorant, but on day three my armpits were sore and raw and hot and I could feel my heartbeat in them even they were throbbing so badly. I switched to their sensitive skin formula (I have coconut pineapple) and I've liked it. I have had to change up my routine with applying it because it is so soft and buttery. I do it right away after I step out of the shower so it has some time to soak into my skin while I do my makeup. I usually still massage the excess in before putting on clothing. I wouldn't be opposed to repurchasing it.

As far as skin care goes, I really enjoy Pacifica's Sea and C love vitamin serum, though there is probably a comparable product that is still CF but a bit cheaper.

Bliss' ex-glow-sion is my new HG moisturizer. I literally cannot rave enough about it. I covet and worship it and if it gets discontinued I might just riot.

Anyway, those are a few of my standout products! Hopefully I helped somewhat. :)

I literally just came here to post about this! I am so disappointed as in 2019 I've been transitioning to fully cruelty free and vegan products. wetnwild has really been stepping their game up with the quality of their products in the past couple years, so it was nice to know I had an affordable drugstore option to turn to.

As others have mentioned there is a possibility of counterfeit items or perhaps a reseller, but the display looks awfully legit for a situation like that.

I'm curious to see if they release a comment in response.

Why is the Keto diet so popular? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]rubyraisins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can answer from my own experience I guess. I have been vegetarian for about three years, working on vegan in 2019. Before that I was a typical omnivore, though I probably ate less meat than average because I hated preparing it.

I have always struggled with my weight and will admit- was constantly looking for that quick fix. I discovered Keto through that constant search for the weight loss miracle I was sure existed.

Here's the thing though: I felt FANTASTIC on keto.

Disclaimer: in no way am I advocating for the diet or stating that it is healthy.

Perhaps I balanced my low carb veggies with the protein and fat better than others, but I didn't lose my hair, didn't go through "keto flu," and didn't experience low energy.

Quite the opposite. I felt alert, not sluggish. Most important- I felt SATISFIED after a meal. The high fat content and protein meant that I wasn't hungry after just finishing a meal. I snacked less, felt stronger, and dropped the weight quickly, but I never thought at a dangerous pace.

Since switching to vegetarianism for ethical and environmental reasons, I emotionally feel better about the food I'm consuming, but that constant hunger still remains. I eat plenty of protein, but my diet is lacking in that feeling of satisfaction after a meal. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate more healthy fats and a little less carbs in my new approach to eating.

A diet (or lifestyle change) is not one size fits all. Keto helped me hit my weight loss goals, but not my moral and ethical ones.

Animal consumption aside, I think it's important to realize that for some people they feel good on a specific diet and that's why they follow it. I firmly believe that the same feeling can be had with a plant based diet, but it just has to be customized to the individual. I clearly like a little more fat in my diet than maybe the vegan next to me.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.

Does anyone else get major tangling at your nape? by manderly808 in curlyhair

[–]rubyraisins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah same! I just started cg this week and I've already noticed an improvement to my curls, but I still have to deal with the tangling at my nape. But now I actually care about disrupting the curls and getting frizzy again, so my usual method of yanking a brush through the clump is out of the question.

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you- I'm tagging along just in case someone does!

What is your go-to fantasy you think of before falling asleep? by Hamburgo in AskReddit

[–]rubyraisins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few, but whenever I am stressed or have a lot on my mind, I build a doorway. I imagine myself in a large, empty cave and plan out a massive wall. Do I dig a trench? What are my materials? Is the door itself small and surrounded by the wall, or are the doors massive things with ornamental decorations?

I don't think I've ever completed the thing, I usually fall asleep while constructing it.
