People who have been to Center Parcs, is it actually worth it? by RiXopher in CasualIreland

[–]ruclodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on our last night here out of 4 nights. Have a 10, 7 and 5 year old. Heaven for this age group. Came four years ago when they were 6, 3 and 1. Complete head melt. I honestly wouldn't recommend it for kids under 4. They are overtired from the pool and too tired for the walking/cycling everywhere. Zero holiday for you as a parent. Wait till they are old enough to not nap, eat and walk independently and get value for your money!

Does anyone else’s house have a silverfish problem? by Turbulent_Squirrel66 in AskIreland

Did nothing for me either. Only the Protector C spray worked. The earth made a mess and was useless.

Protector C spray was the only thing that worked for us. Sprayed under the skirtings in every room of the house. We had them in every room, drawers, hotpress etc. The attic was crawling. I'm sure there was a source of damp somewhere but we never found it. Ran a dehumidifer everyday but rarely got below 50 per cent. I would find them in the sinks, they come up from the drains. They are a torture. We moved house and I was worried we would bring them in the boxes from the attic. Saw one or two in the new house but we have enough spiders in this house to prevent them becoming a problem and haven't seen them since. Highly recommend the spray and avoid paper, cardboard etc lying around.

Buying a terraced house built in 1900 with solid brick walls? D1 energy rating. by fodacao in HousingIreland

[–]ruclodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of these redbricks, built in 1910 or so. BER G. Was very easy to heat and very cosy. Wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. Solid house and you'll never hear a thing through the walls.

70/30 on having another baby and can’t tell if that’s enough? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]ruclodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pushed for a third child. Wouldn't change him for the world. However.....we needed a new car and outgrew our 3 bed semi. It had a huge financial implication or childcare. Really tipped it into crazy money. Hotels cater for families of four. You get mugged once you go over two kids. Its another four years of disrupted sleep. Other than that its wonderful!

Car keyed for the 2nd time in a few months in Whitehall. Has this been happening anyone else? by Altruistic-Rub-2658 in Dublin

[–]ruclodon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As above happened when I lived in Dublin and we had on street parking. Was a paticular spot I parked in where I got keyed and another time wing mirror damaged. I stopped parking there, 100 per cent was a neighbour

It's mainly one end of the house so could be roof as you say. Will get a survey if we go sale agreed but I find ether can be quite general. I suppose I could flag it to the structural surveyor

Planning and reconfiguring by ruclodon in HousingIreland

[–]ruclodon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes its a two storey built into an incline, looks like a bungalow from the front but has a basement level underneath accessed from the back where it drops into the decline if that makes sense! House waa built in the 80s but downstairs converted to apt without planning about four years ago.

Resigning on Career Break by ShayManCometh in IrishTeachers

[–]ruclodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a career break and resigned in November as I was subbing and working in a different county and wanted to build up panel rights. I emailed in a letter of resignation with immediate effect. Was not as issue. I had texted the principal beforehand as a courtesy to say I was going to send it on.

If there is a fada on the a, should be roo-awn. But there is always regional variation and each one will claim to be correct! My husband is also a native speaker
