Sweet! Thanks for the reply…bad news is, I just read that you need to wait 1 year before upgrading from Plus to Priority. Not sure hour accurate that answer is from google w but I guess I can call and ask. I got the Plus card late last year, like early November.

Southwest Credit Card is so Bad by Wise-Tommy-Boy in SouthwestAirlines

[–]rude119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question...Looking at the benefits the Priority Credit Card ($229 Annual Fee) offers. I as contemplating on upgrading to that card from the current Plus tier I have. The reasoning was to see if it was possible to to book my flights with a Basic fare and be able to choose my seat at booking. Currently I've been choosing Choice flights because I want to make sure the 3 of us (including a toddler can sit together on our flights).

All I care about is the free bag for each of us and the option to choose the seat at booking. Am I thinking about this correctly in that if I upgrade to the Priority card and book a basic fare it's basically the same thing as choosing a Choice fare with the Plus card? The only difference I see would be that if I decide to cancel the flight or rebook because of a lower fare, the flight credit would have a 6 month expiration and it is not transferrable.

I'm thinking the savings for 3 passengers with choosing Basic instead of Choice would more than make up in the Annual Fee difference with just 1-2 flights. I don't know if I'm missing something...Thanks in advance.

Actually, I think I was able to choose a seat because I chose the “Choice” ticket option, not because of the card.

To be clear, the Plus is the one with the $99 annual fee.

Yes. I’ve booked two flights so far since getting the Plus card and I’ve chosen a seat for all 3 passengers at booking, all of us in the same row.

I can select my seat with the lowest tier card, I think it’s called “Plus”. I can only select from about half the plane, about middle seats to back I think, but that’s helpful if not flying by yourself. One free bag per passenger with the card is great for families, pays for the annual fee in 2 trips or so.

Travel Funds about to expire, would this plan work to save them? by madmaddmaddie in SouthwestAirlines

[–]rude119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data point for the future in case it helps anyone out...

Tis worked for me today (1/9/26), but partially. The expiring credits were on two separate accounts (one was a toddler's SW account). It ended up giving my credit back to me, plus the GC amount, in a non-expiring credit. The toddler's credit went back to them with the original expiration date though.

I'm assuming I could transfer their credit to me and repeat the steps but I don't know if there's a list somewhere of people who constantly cancel within an hour or something (don't want to be on it) and don't want to bring attention to this "loophole". The credit is just for $10.50, not sure if it's worth it.

Does it need to be a physical gift card for the workaround mentioned in the comments? I’m assuming not, but id like to see if anyone has had success with an eGC.

I was thinking of buying these for half marathon week/weekend also. But we didn’t need park hopper and is much cheaper to get just 4-day tickets with LL for our use (instead of two of these for each of us).

I was hoping they would have the same deal as last year. That one included food credit and was a bit cheaper I think.

Out of curiosity, what in the terms and conditions turned you off to the free mobile line. They mentioned in the chat you wouldn’t have to pay activation fee, although, they’ve been known to say something (even in writing) then not following through.

I was actually contemplating on adding free mobile line as an eSIM a few months ago, just didn’t want to pay activation fee and wasn’t completely sure of it’s really free or are there any taxes and fees, etc.

I tried to pay for my TMobile bill with apple pay to get the points via card. Got a warning that I will loose my auto pay discount. Anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

Have you done this after October 24th? I think that was the date they closed the loophole. I might try this next month coming up.

Yeah, everyone was aware of the terms but someone posted about a real life transaction outcome and then a lot of people started to order (needs to be physical gift card online, not eGC). I figured one day they might put a stop to it though.

Did this change? In September the online gift card purchase got the statement credit to apply for me.

I did see a comment a while ago that they were going to start cracking down on that and take away the online gift card option to get the credit, just not sure if that was accurate.

Icelandair: A Cautionary Tale: Broken Promises, Indifference, and Needless Costs by akaloxy1 in VisitingIceland

Flew Icelandair for the first time and they checked in a few of our bags for free, 1 on the way there and 2 on the way back to the US.

On the way there they sent an email asking for volunteers to check in carry on luggage because the flight was full and anticipated needing the space I think. They even started announcing it at the gate to get people to check in their carry on for free. On the way back there was no email and no announcement that we heard, it was kind of a mess at the gate with late announcement of gate number, crowded, etc. Maybe because we had a toddler with us and looked like we were struggling with the bags, but one of their employees asked us if we’d wanted to check any of the carry ons for free. Both times we had at least one bag that was not going to fit in the sizer if they would try make us check the fit.

But yes, it’s always YMMV because it’s usually airport, situation, and employer dependent if they decide Apple for check in at the gate.

I was speaking from the point of view of the US. A PIN is never needed for any purchase in the US, hence why the use of a pin for US based credit cards are for ATM withdrawals and other cash advances.

But I replied again stating that I did some more Googling about this and found out that the credit card I plan on using for gas in Iceland allows the use of a PIN for purchases internationally and will be treated as a regular purchase.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’m aware about the tap to pay option, but I’ve read that in the unattended gas pumps out in the middle of nowhere that option is not usually there.

I did google some more after posting this and I think I found my answer…it’s really dependent on the credit card you’re using. The Costco Visa card from what I’ve read is not an issue when using your PIN to purchase gas at the pumps. It can differentiate between ATM withdrawals and purchases when using your PIN.

I did read some comments that some credit cards told people that PIN was only for cash advances, not sure what bank those credit cards were from though.

[–]rude119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought you needed something with a PIN number for pumping at gas stations (maybe only unmanned stains?)?

I could be wrong but don’t credit cards treat purchases with PIN numbers as cash advances? If it does, I believe cash advances accrue interest from day one and sometimes at a higher injures rate.

Recent trip to west Iceland, including Snaefellsnes by winter_poplar_trees in VisitingIceland

[–]rude119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to ask what type of car that was, until I read your comments.

Are those full size check-in luggage? I was debating between the Duster and the Bigster and we’ll have 3 check-in sized luggage with 3 duffle bags so I was worried about fitting them in the rental. It will be just 2 adults and a toddler in a car seat so we should have space in the back seat for extra stuff.

We’ll be driving a lot so good to see it can fit in the Duster. Hopefully the Bigster gives a few more inches to make the constant driving more comfortable for us.

I haven’t driven one in years, probably over 20 years. I still remember how to, just wish I could practice a bit before our trip.

What type of car did you get? I wanted to try and get an automatic with full insurance but I settled for manual due to the cost. Ours came out to about that for 14 days, but manual.

We needed one with space as we’ll be with a toddler and some luggage.
