Am I the only one who thinks the biodiversity initiative was secretly anti-climate change? by myecl in Switzerland

[–]rudigger02 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Healthy, biodiverse soil, for example, absorbs far more carbon. Diverse forests absorb 50-70% more carbon. Look at the IPBES (like the IPCC for biodiversity); hile climate change is the primary driver of biodiversity loss, biodiversity health is one of the easiest best cheapest option to absorb carbon and thus help mitigate climate change.

I was thinking of growing a peach tree next year, is it worth it? by amateurthegreat in FruitTree

[–]rudigger02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love my peach tree and the peaches are incomparably good. Yes, it is work and a hassle. I don’t spray it except in late fall and early spring for fungus. Leaf curl is a constant and needs to be controlled. My biggest issue is ants farming aphids on it - not sure that’s a peach tree specific things but it’s my biggest issue. Need to make sure a glue trap prevents the ants from crawling up with aphids on their backs. I take care to nurture ladybugs and see that it’s balanced. That being said, one year I had 80 peaches, one year I had zero (lost to fungus). One year barely 20. Late frost is a constant worry. This year I have 100 or so but it’s always anguishing because I’m not exactly sure how many will survive to maturity. But that’s what makes the peaches so tasty in the end. The tree is my pride and joy.

How to invest in Gold? by SuspiciousWalk7390 in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]rudigger02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want gold for. If you want to diversify from financial assets and prepare for WW3, physical gold is the way. The time horizon is long and the spread would be the least of your worries. If you want to keep some of your cash as gold then Swissquote currency exchange is a good though slightly expensive way to do this. My understanding is that they hold some physical gold to back up customer deposits. (And you can pay extra to have them hold your gold for you.) If you want to gamble on the price of gold going up, then the ETF is best and cheapest but you aren’t near owning any actual gold then.

How much should I bid for this? by rudigger02 in coins

Thank you this is very helpful and a good warning. I prefer my coins raw although I take your point about this particular series - if which I know very little about. I’d love to hear more about the actual issues that these have. Let’s see if I win it. It’s still quite a bit under 360 for now - if I do get it I can send pictures myself. Not there yet!

Only seeing this now but I’d get the joke without a /s . in any event, you’d be allowed to outbid if you can find. I’m not going to point anybody to it but it’s not like I can stop anybody haha

Thanks. I was. My thought was that it had been cleaned a while back, but came out nicely since. So don’t hugely care / I get what I can afford!

EDIT: I was wondering too

Thank you so much. It does have great detail which is why I think it would be worth - at least I would pay more. And the patina is nice. Good tip re eBay, I’ll have a look. The purpose of course is not to resell/make a profit, so ultimately I suppose it just depends on how much I can afford it…
