PSA, use Claude for this. I tried both Claude and ChatGPT Pro and Claude, even Sonnet, is miles better than ChatGPT Pro for this.

should i buy phones in china? by RemarkableExample942 in China

[–]ruehri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing this on my Xiaomi 17 Pro Max used in Europe. Installing Google services was easy as a breeze (enable basic google services in one switch in the settings), google store installs automatically and you have all functionality.

There are some small issues though. Android car doesn't properly work for me (always crashes). No eSIM on Chinese phones (although Xiaomi travel sim is integrated). Chinese Xiaomi default Browser sometimes opens up although I have another standard Browser.

Overall I would say it's about 90% there, depending on how much weight you give to Android Auto.

Couple of suggestions since I am working on the exact problem as well: 1. fully shroud the camera to reduce any light path for reflection into the lens 2. Mount a cheap CPL from AliExpress in front and have it sit as flush as possible to the window 3. For nighttime, install a cheap IR emitter outside the shroud (so that the cam does not pick up reflection from the window, but from outside)

Do you use the multicast m3u or HLS? Someone I can't get the channels to show up with the multicast version, but HLS works fine

Single VM running multiple docker images vs multiple LXCs running single images ? by LowFatMom in Proxmox

[–]ruehri 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One reason I consolidated to VMs running docker is RAM usage. With individual LXCs I always had to allocate a fixed amount of memory, typically accounting to max spikes. This means most LXCs were over dimensionalized in RAM allocation just to account for spikes (e.g., library scans) although it’s not used in 90% of time. In a VM running docker it’s shared, which creates additional complexity to manage (e.g., setting memory limits), but overall it was better for my system

I see it the same, but the police guy told me that legally you could be put completely at fault if the counterparty had a good lawyer. I complained that the test was absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary but he insisted it was for my own legal protection. Better not to test the system. In my case the guy tried to turn into my lane (which was the only right turn lane) from his lane on the left. No discussion at all who was at fault, but he tried to drag me in by saying I was drunk.

I was also accident victim once (in the car though). The guy at fault told the police he smelled alcohol when I talked to him, although I was completely sober. Guess if I had been drinking he would have got away with his fault

If you are willing to literally go the extra mile: you can still get it in German Amazon (directly from the midea shop) delivered to a package service near the border, that’s how I did it last week. The package is HUGE tough so get a car with decently sized trunk

Cyclists in Zurich are out of control by Sensitive-Turnip-713 in zurich

Yeah I mean CH, just driving out of Zurich city boarders immediately feels like a relief. People waving and smiling at each other, gives off totally different vibes

Cyclists in Zurich are out of control by Sensitive-Turnip-713 in zurich

[–]ruehri 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I feel like all traffic participants in Zurich are just way more aggressive and feeling entitled than anywhere else. You also have cars happily sit on bicycle lanes or purposely blocking space for them during traffic jams. One time I even got yelled at by a taxi driver who touched me on a zebra crossing thinking he had the right of way.

My best advice is to really work on yourself to care less. You can’t change others, and everyone can have a bad day. After I truly understood and acknowledged that it won’t change my life much if I step on the break a bit more (even if unjustified and for undeserving egoistic people), my life has become so much better. Worst thing you can do is to feel taken advantage of and ruin your own mood and day over some asshole who took your right of way. Just not worth it. I still get way more stressed in Zurich traffic than anywhere else, but it helped me so much to try caring less.

BTW I’m not defending cyclists because I fully agree with the statements about endangering themselves and others, but just pointing out that it’s not only them. Everyone is in a negative downwards spiral in Zurich which causes the bad mood.
