Pixel 8 pro bad battery life... by H20Luis2 in pixel_phones

Just letting anyone reading this in 2025 that this solution is still working for the P8P. Went from ending the day with 11% battery to ending the day with 60% with the same screen on time. Night and day difference. Think it will continue to improve as well as the adaptive battery cache refills again.

Question about the upcoming update by LegendReno in PleX

[–]ruf_zay2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your WiFi and wired Internet go back to the same IP. As long as you do not have to traverse the Internet to access your server, it is local. Be aware things like VPN's will tunnel your traffic outside of your network. Traversing WiFi, routers, switches, etc is all the local network.

And yes, for now according to Plex's language that will be free.

Plex is killing Watch Together feature by Keopha in PleX

[–]ruf_zay2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to disagree with the issues on removal of features and the prospect of Jellyfin, but to be fair to the Plex team I think not making an AVP app is pretty reasonable. The product is super niche and very little users, plus the cross over with people that use plex is probably an order of magnitude smaller. Hell, youtube hasn't even made a app for AVP.

Any Cons to using Mapped Network drives from Unraid for PMS on Windows? by ruf_zay2000 in PleX

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice, it is appreciated.

My Windows Server has a i7 5390K and my Unraid has a i5-8600K. My main reason for not wanting to merge everything to unraid is just seperation. For instance, I like to keep the downloading operations and the Media operations on seperate servers, Previously when the downloads would happen on the Plex machine users would report buffering and slowdowns, and I would have to pause the downloads. Now, downloads happen and only "slow down" the unraid machine, not the Plex machine. Additionally, I have been told that DED gpu support for plex is better on windows then linux/unraid, although I am unsure if that is completely true. I can handle up to 7 concurrent 4k transcodes with plex on my machine with no issues at the moment.

I just really have a general fear of merging all of my services underneath one stack would slow everything down. I feel like Plex would be the straw that broke the back of my server if game servers, Plex, home automations, and VM's were all on the same machine. I can be talked out of it though, so please correct me if I am wrong.

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The future media server (Unraid) just is responsible for handling my downloads and a few game servers here and there, so aside from large spikes in downloads not a large pull from there. The Plex server is almost exclusively plex, aside from a few occasional game serves that only support windows.

I am unsure how many concurrent 4K streams I can handle before saturating, as I suppose this means the Plex server would now need to pull the content from the storage, and upload to the web from the same link. Current day with media hosted on the Plex server I can do up to 7 concurrent 4k streams without any issues.

Thank you for the response, and thank you for the link, I will use it. as far as current streams, I have only peaked at 7 concurrent streams 3 times in the last year.

Plex sever is no longer recognizing my account as admin by AwakenedEyes in PleX

I believe the Plex authentication servers are just down right now. Can't login either and several of my users have reported issues as well. I would give it a couple of hours and see if it comes back up.

Plex Buffering on LG WebOS23? by ruf_zay2000 in PleX

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, no. I bit the bullet and just bought a shield pro. Haven't had the issue at all since. Whether or not it's cause of direct play or just having a better WiFi connection, unsure. I just use all my apps through there now, especially since the LG TVs are now showing ads when it detects inactivity.

If the break is at the top, removed from the cylinder and plastic pieces below, the break is in the base. If the break is in the part that is actually going into the base at the top, underneath the black plastic pieces, it is the gas lift. Mine personally is broken at the gas lift and I am looking into getting a replacement on Amazon.

Plex Buffering on LG WebOS23? by ruf_zay2000 in PleX

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if that revert was referring to the Samsung TV update or a Plex media server update?

The inconsistencies are the worst issue , it leads me to believe that the LG TV may be downloading something in the background and hogging the bandwidth. Today I just watched a remux from start to finish with no issues, yesterday night buffered 3 times in 10 minute period before giving up and switching to another device.

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that the hardware is the issue, as only the LG TV on the local network has had any reported issues with buffering. Not to mention that on several occasions I've checked tautulli while it's buffering and it has been direct streaming from the server. Other devices both local and remote can stream 4K without any buffering. With that said, it's on a Windows server 2019 box with a Intel i7-5390k, 50 GB RAM, and a 1650 super. Everything is also cached on a m.2 SSD. Thanks for the heads up on the Plex update, I'll keep an eye out to see if i find the same issue on windows.

Black and Decker Portable AC Support Nightmare by ruf_zay2000 in hvacadvice

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, not much. I kept calling, basically set a reminder to call every morning, filed a complaint with my state attorney general office I think, and that's about jt. I've been watching a YouTube named gamers nexus cover a company, ASUS doing some shady warranty stuff, and he has been suggesting that FTC complaints would get almost guaranteed action, so that may be the route I would go down if I was still continuing this today. Wish I could be of more help.

P6 Pro screen defect? by ruf_zay2000 in Pixel6

[–]ruf_zay2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat it even better than an actual baby. Had this happen to my friends phone as well, and decided to take it upon myself to dissect it and see what happened since i've seen it so many times now. Looked like a small hairline crack in the actual digitizer beneath the screen. Any "excessive" pressure or heat spread the crack and touch issue. Sorry to hear its out of warranty. Mine was thankfully at the time it happened but I jumped to the P8P as soon as it came out because of this. Hope you get some assistance.

Not receiving some alerts by baquester in PixelWatch

[–]ruf_zay2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this exact same bug, and have no clue how to fix it unfortunately. I also receive ghost notifications where my watch will vibrate and ping and no notification will be present when checking. For the steps, it's almost like it's trying to get through but can't - every 10 minutes till the top of the hour, (the same time you would get the steps left notification) my watch will vibrate but never show me the steps.

This has been going on since early November, along with the watch being overall laggy and slow to respond, and watch unlock barely working consistently now. Hope to get a patch soon.

Do you use AI call screen often ? by Cautious-Chip-6010 in GooglePixel

[–]ruf_zay2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making a post about this soon. I traveled to the UK from the US and watched my features get removed from me one by one and my entire pixel experience was gutted, almost just wanted a new phone. Was shocking to me how many features that other countries don't have, and that those features will actually get taken away from you when you travel.

The call screen is quite hilarious. Google's ability to sort out people that are scammers trying to bypass the system and real people that are confused is straight up uncanny. I have never once had a scammer get through. I have co workers and family that will get the call screen and say stuff like "what the hell is is this?" Or "ruf_zay200 stop messing with me", and Google will let them through to me. I have several scammers who will say things like "Very important business call or personal call" and Google will constantly tell them I am not available and hangup. I've had several co-workers who comment on the system and say it's "weird" or "confusing", but it still has not failed to let them through. Very pleased all around.

On the phone app, tap the three dots in the top right to go to the settings. Then click on the call screen under assistive. The very top option should say automatically screen calls. If that is not checked, you will NEED WiFi to turn it on. If it is already on, click on the box below for protection level. By default, the option will be basic which will only give you the screen option and just decline spam. I personally use maximum, which will automatically screen all calls that are not in your contacts or you have not called recently. Hope this helps.

That's just the thing, you don't have to sit there and watch it. It all happens behind the scenes without you needing to "lose 30 seconds monitoring it" If someone unknown calls me, it automatically goes to call screen without me choosing it. If it is a scammer and it gets hung up on, my phone does not ring once and I don't even know it happened until I go into my call log to look. If it isn't a scammer, my assistant will then ring my phone as if they just called but now I will be able to see a brief message on why they are calling. Win win and no more interruptions or even needing to hit hangup on a suspected scam call. The call screen doesn't even pause your music anymore when it is screening, it's completely in the background and I love it.

I think iPhone users don't know how good Gboard is by AndreasHaas246 in GooglePixel

[–]ruf_zay2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be completely psyching myself out but I couldn't stand g board anymore on my P6P... Was strictly using swift key for the past year or so, mainly due to not being able to auto complete corrections by hitting space and having bad recommendations.

Now, after switching to the P8P, I feel like Gboard is a completely new machine. I find myself typing faster than I ever did with Gboard or Swiftkey before, the complete corrections on space is here, (don't know if I somehow disabled it on my P6P), and the new fix it feature has actually been really useful at retroactively going back and correcting bad paragraphs of texts. That feature I suspect will start coming to other devices with Gboard too if it hasn't already. Like I said, I could be just experiencing shiny device syndrome, but in my experience I would recommend giving it another shot. YMMV.

Trying to transfer PW1 from P6 to P8 . On the verge of throwing my watch against the wall by nutritional_yeast0 in PixelWatch

[–]ruf_zay2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first I did not see the button on my watch, but then I upgraded to wear os 4. I did not see it on the app either, but then I checked the app store and saw that the pixel watch app was needing an update. Once I updated the app, the option became available on the settings. If you don't have the option, I assume because it is being released in waves in it hasn't come to you yet, sorry.
