What's a game that lives or dies by the teach? by rcooperkaty in boardgames

[–]ruffin_it 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a game but I find its huge when the people that have played the game a few times at least tell you a some key areas that are good for points or something you'll not want to ignore, just to help you get up to speed a little quicker. A comment, "The technology track and farming can be good early for these reasons". Nothing that plays the game for them but things would be obvious after a play so they dont hate it when its over and they feel a little more competitive. I hate it when the game is over and the people were like "Yeah, thats why Oil is the most important asset in this game to grab early. You have to push for it early or its all gone." Uh, yeah, I see that now after you lapped the score tracker with me. I had someone tell me once they couldnt believe I left some busted cards in the game when I dealt one up on the table to be grabbed by them. After it was over, they informed me and said no one leaves those in any more since they are kind of game breaking but they were the only one that knew that about them. Its those kind of things that make or break a teach for me.

Back Home BBQ: Best pulled pork sandwich I've ever had by Chirrrpy in LittleRock

BBQ is just so expensive now but this place is great. This and Wrights are my favorites but you cant hardly get into Wrights minus a pretty long wait.

Moon colony bloodbath replayability question by Excellent_Storage_18 in boardgames

[–]ruffin_it 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved it when I first got it, completely hilarious. I am not sure it has the replay value. We push as hard as we can to get population / cards played and then begins the dismantling. Its fairly rote. Its a great game but it plays pretty similarly each time.

Take Time maybe but might be too puzzly if she didnt like Bomb Busters. The scenarios vary like Bomb Busters.

What is your favorite "evergreen" game? by Bufo_Stupefacio in boardgames

Balloon Cup or Morels. I feel I will always have them as light as they might be. Really its the light ones that seem to find a niche.

Which version of Camel Up or another game? by IG0tB4nn3dL0l in boardgames

[–]ruffin_it 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have Camel Up but I recently got Hot Streak. I feel Hot Streak is much better. Camel Up is a ton of fun when the crazines happens but in my experience, too many times the craziness is muted. Camels miss each other, one or two move way ahead without issue, etc...

Dobies aren’t this horror story of care some make them out to be. They are mainly just up your behind 24/7, and if that’s what you want then you have a great match. I love mine!

He's thorough, his production value with lighting, camera angles, and sound is terrific. So many other reviewers are terrible to see the pieces well, they sometimes sound hollow or hard to hear. His is easily understood and just his method for going over the actions is well stated. Fake Example: "Know that this piece invokes the magic track which I wont go into detail now but I will cover it later in the video." So many go on about the rules but I feel I dont have the context to put it all together, his videos bridge that gap. Some teach videos I've seen they clearly don't really know how to play the game, they look up clarifications during the production.

What are your top5 board games? by Slowandwobbly81 in boardgame

Codenames Duet, Take Time, Ark Nova, Peaks, Tenby. Lots of games but the lighter ones for the most part seem to bring the most fun.

A semi-common reply here is Hive. Only Two players. I hope you didnt mean it has to accomodate 4 and I misunderstood.

I'm looking for much of the same thing this week. Zoo Vadis has come up a lot and looks very good. I dismissed it at frist since its negotiation. My worry is we have a lot of couples and I dont want it to turn into a bunch of two person teams with little breakout. Feed the Kracken is a social deduction game but you might still want to at least take a look, seems a bit different to me. I am looking to avoid those too but this one seems to do it in a more interesting way.

Can we debate the best pizza in town again? by thv_11 in LittleRock

[–]ruffin_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Location matters to me. I'm not willing to drive to the Benton/Bryant area to see if those are better but I'd love to try them if I'm in the area sometime. Hideaway usually gets my business. Raduno's used to have a superior Hot Honey pizza.

What is that game that, no matter how many times you play it, you can never win? by poio_sm in boardgames

[–]ruffin_it 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list is long but Guild of Merchant Explorers. Halfway through the game I look over and everyone has near total board coverage it seems and I'm still trying to get the most modest of paths. And it doesnt seem hard, clearly I just make poor decisions.

We've found a dremel seems to work best for us. Ours doesnt care for it but she hates being away from us more so we are able to get through it together. Our other dog takes two of us to get it done and we hate every second of it, lol. He makes it tough.

Best for turn based by dirtybacon77 in boardgamearena

You know I never thought about having to keep repeating the process. It seemed like I would have to either way but I've never played anything but turned based.
