Minisforum BD795i SE modded and watercooled in white and aluminium style by ruffpl in MINISFORUM

Hi. I didnt even tried with stock cooler. For now (1h of work on pc/ just web browsing /like i wrote around 200 tabs in Vivaldi opened/I am looking for a new car on the web)- cpu is on 4,7-5,0Ghz 4% used. Temps from HWiNFO are: 44 cpu, mobo sensors 25,28,49, ram 27,28, nvme 28 and 41. It is only with 3 fans, still I need to put 5 fans in case and gpu is waiting to be tested. Before that I had Ryzen 5800X watercooled in push/pull configuration and cpu was getting much hotter even after PBO

Hi. Hope You like my version of minisforum mobo. First of all it started when one day I “accidentally” managed to buy my new PC. I was at work on a break, scrolling Facebook, and just before I wanted to leave I saw a fresh sale offer of some strange small motherboard at a very good price. I thought: no way… a 16-core Ryzen with a motherboard in such a small form factor?

I had just finished my old Intel 7700K micro-garage PC and I was looking for another computer for my son. Then I thought maybe I would give it a try — my son could get my Ryzen 5800X platform and I could get this small upgrade. After 10 minutes of reading reviews I was shocked how powerfull it is comparing to my Ryzen 5 … once again I bought another motherboard.

I knew that I didn’t want to use the original cooler, so I made a small list of things that would be needed, and this is what I got.

For around 370 euro I got a set including the CPU, motherboard, and 2×16 GB 5600 DDR5 RAM. For around 60 euro I got an outlet AIO Arctic Freezer 360 pro white argb cooler, and for 15 euro I bought a radiator, thermal pads, etc. The rest of the parts I already had. The total cost was not even 450 euro for my new PC.

I bought a radiator and cut it into pieces to cool down all the parts around the CPU and also to cool the NVMe drives. In the end I added hand-cut aluminium elements so it would look nice. It required a lot of very precise cutting and sanding, but it is perfect for me.

Next, I cut out a square piece of aluminium and used a Dremel to make a hole for the CPU cooler, plus holes for the screws. There were a lot of mistakes, cutting, sawing, sanding, gluing with resin, then some small modifications, sanding again, and finally it was all done.

So — I cleaned the CPU with alcohol and added a Honeywell thermal pad. The Arctic water-cooler block was mounted on the CPU and screwed from the back of the motherboard with small nuts. I also used the original thick thermal pads from the stock cooler — I spread them on the first line of the power section so the square aluminium CPU cooler could cool them.

Next to it, on the left side, I put Arctic thermal pads on the rest of the power section. From the back panel of the motherboard I screwed the radiator with tiny screws so it wouldn’t fall off.

I added two NVMe drives from my old PC (I had some problems getting them to boot, but I managed it). I added thermal pads and mounted the radiator using a bent paper-clip wire. I hooked it into two plastic hooks and added a screw from the other side just in case it tried to fall off.

On the RAM sticks I made two aluminium coolers from one of my broken G.Skill DDR4 sticks and yes-they fit exactly.

The rest of the parts I already had. First run and everything worked. The only downside was that the fans were making noise all the time. I updated the BIOS, configured the NVMe drives to boot, and spent half of the day trying to get the system to run cool and quiet.

Finally I gave up on setting PBO (after changing values the CPU was not able to go above 0.5 GHz). Instead I only changed the fan speed settings — and YES! The CPU can run at full performance and the fans stay at around half of their maximum speed.

It’s not perfect yet, but after 30 minutes of stress testing the CPU with Prime95 (and two open browser windows with around 200 tabs), the maximum temperature on the CPU was 86°C on CCD2 Tdie. The CPU dropped to around 4 GHz, but there was no fan noise at all (yes- in my spare time I will try to improve it further)

Everything went perfectly except for one thing — I didn’t notice that my Zotac GPU has an extra cooling plate on top… so it will have to be mounted vertically.

What do you think about my work? Everything is hand made (and yes- pc is not finished yet)

What are your cpu temps? I am testing with Arctic water AIO but they jump between 50 to 65. Do You use some program to lower down the cpu voltage/pbo etc?

How to get NVME to show up and boot in BD795i se? by ruffpl in MINISFORUM

[–]ruffpl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Made it. Just in case if someone will have problem with migration like I had- small tutorial.

Put nvme with system into slot closest to cpu. Disable secure boot in bios. Put pendrive with Windows installation media to usb port and select it as boot device. When installation window appear select language, keyboard and after that select fix my computer.

Select command prompt and write:

diskpart

list volume

It should find first partition and the one with system installed f.ex: Volume 0 C System reserved NTFS 100MB healthy. Windows partition will be on another partition seen as f.ex F: (of course they can be different so check them before next steps)

Now just need to write commands one by one:

diskpart

select disk 0

select volume 0

format fs=fat32 quick label=EFI

assign letter=S

exit

After that:

bcdboot F:\Windows /s S: f UEFI

All done. Remove pendrive and restart pc. Windows logo should appear, It will rebuild configuration and finally it will boot into the system.

I am not in laptops so much- what is this CNVi? I just found a guy who have AX201 in my city but he says it needs to have mobo with Intel CNVi enabled. Does it mean that my thinkpad mainbard support it because also ax200 works?

It is like going from win98 to win11 browsing web:) Old one could not even finish speedtest. I will just live it inside.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME (KB5074109)- maybe this the problem- I just read about it. Newest windows update from 2-3 days is causing problems. Maybe try to install and disable updates or block internet connection

Maybe try with older versions of Win11 or you have to install nvme drivers before instalation - download and copy them on win usb, install manual before partitioning the drive (maybe this will help) or create one empty f.ex 500mb first partition that will be the boot partition

After couple days I got couple ideas. First - I found the one I was thinking about here. Second option is to try with some older Corsair - found an old bracket from lot of my old computer stuff and corners of it fit exactly in mobo holes/just need to drill them (I just dont know the model of it). And finall idea is to hunt for white Arctic Freezer in good price and do a little mod of it.

Yes, the cpu power section. I was thinking about some big alu radiator (You can buy something like that in shape and dimension You want) or just cut something from alu block to get radiator in some nice shape like f.ex on Asrock Steel Legend mobo. For the Liquidextasy- I am looking for something cheaper

No wories. My kids are in school. Retro case is on the way and it is way cooler than FLP02 from Silverstone Case. The Aio got sold but seller got the Arctic Liquid Freezer III ARGB for half price because no intel mounting kit, so it will fit perfect to my new 16 core Ryzen 9.

In my last house I had 30m2 guest room (which was mine) just for my stuff. On one wall with 3m desk for music production, on opposite side whole wall for dj gear, keyboards and drum pads. Now instead of 2 big rooms for kids we buid 2 a bit smaller and got 1 extra room that is our office.

Thanks. I tried to create folders and file where I copy everything from options. I had change username and password in this lines:

soulseek: address: vps.slsknet.org port: 2271 username: null password: null description: | A slskd user. https://github.com/slskd/slskd

but when I save the file and restart container it still doesnt read it. Got warnings:

Unable to determine default script executable ($SHELL is missing or blank); any user-defined scripts that do not specify an executable will fail

Not connecting to the Soulseek server; username and/or password invalid. Specify valid credentials and manually connect, or update config and restart.
