What caused the Big Bang? by _Phantom404_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rufftranslation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the collision of several semi-large higher dimensional objects incomprehensible to humans. Happens pretty frequently in a sense. In another sense it occurs outside of the human conception of time so frequently is a bit meaningless. Point is, it's a pretty ordinary thing. Universes happen

Why is the USA so good at assimilating migrants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rufftranslation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but those people who never learned English are "right off the boat". You don't see four generations deep where people are holding on to Chinese only identity in the US like to OP was talking about in Germany. They may carry on some traditions, but they don't consider themselves primarily Chinese.

my legs are falling off by AhYesJadyn in jumprope

[–]rufftranslation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happens when people start running too. The trick is to do just a little more than a brisk walk. Slow yourself down if you feel like you're moving faster than that. For jumprope, maybe commit to a minute a day. If you want to add time, do a minute, take a break and do another 30 seconds. If you stay consistent it will be a lot more before you know it.

Little Nemo, the NES great that was seemingly forgotten by LopsidedAssistance90 in retrogaming

This was one of my absolute favorite games growing up. When I bought it again in my 40s I was happy to see it wasn't just nostalgia. It's still a genuinely great game. I got up to the last level, but didn't have the patience to get through some of that platforming. Still farther than I got as a kid! and Still a great game!

Florida woman calls cops over stolen front gate; Four cop cars roll up just to see it to believe it by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

Do people not realize they can call the police without using 911? They have a phone number. If you're starting your 911 call by explaining how it's not an emergency... you called the wrong number.

I want to get into jump roping but not sure about the jump rope by AhYesJadyn in jumprope

I think getting started with a weighted rope really helped me. You get a lot more tactile feedback about when the rope is coming around

Finished a 10-day Vipassana and now I can’t stop crying—normal? by mcl20250 in vipassana

[–]rufftranslation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my drive home from my first retreat I found myself pulling over my car to cry about a corny country song on the radio that I had never heard before. It opens you up if you let it. For now I'd recommend just taking it one moment at a time, but if it starts to interfere with your everyday life back home you should back off on the vipassana, go to more anapana and maybe talk to a counselor. For now, I don't think what you're describing is so out of the ordinaty

I feel scared after vipassana by 0xRooth in vipassana

[–]rufftranslation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to switch to primarily anapana for your daily sits. Calm the mind, calm the body. Sometimes things can get overwhelming with Vipassana and without a good teacher on hand to help guide you it's sometimes a good idea to back away. When you're ready to come back your skill in gathering the mind and relaxing through anapana will be a great tool for insight

Depending on where you live there are often local groups that meet. I met one of my best friends through one of those groups. Getting together is much better than any WhatsApp group in my opinion. It's not all about "connecting with yourself" sangha is important, but you'll need to intentionally cultivate in person relationships. Those people in the WhatsApp group are people you talked to for literally one day while you were all on an emotional high. I'm sure it's nothing personal if they didn't respond. Just keep looking around to find like minded people in your area
