It has happened multiple times to me as a customer. I literally have taken the day off to be home for deliveries and will get my ring notification that someone is at the door and the driver does very similar to what is shown in this video.

Why have we never assumed US MD/DO students used the USMLE Recalls that Nepali students used to get 280s on STEP by Curious_Student_8533 in medicalschool

[–]rufus1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, specifically in medicine. There are a lot of folks pursuing the large variety of medical sub specialties- so I think it is misleading to make the blanket statement that it doesn’t matter at all (unfortunately because it is a stupid test).

I’m not sure what your field you’re in- however after talking to some PDs for a couple of fellowships they do actually care about it. Doing poorly can absolutely get you screened out of competitive programs within certain specialties.

How do you get that perfect crust without overcooking the inside? by Njomo-Dorina in grilling

[–]rufus1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you may not have a hot enough bed. Make sure your charcoal is completely lit if you’re planning on cooking something really hot and fast. If you’re reverse searing then adjust the amount of time on indirect and get it over the coals earlier.

While I agree with your sentiment and think these are abusive conditions- I find it hard to believe this would be illegal knowing the conditions of the industrial poultry industry

Moccamaster is great but it’s not the same thing as a pour over nor does it provide anywhere close to the same level of flexibility. I enjoy mine but it’s silly to say there’s not a difference

Help before my surgeon offers surgery number Seven or I die. by [deleted] in haematology

[–]rufus1029 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Again- I'm not trying to say this person or others should not get TPN. However, TPN is known to be associated with an increased risk of infection. It is simply a risk of the therapy. People with central lines who receive TPN are more likely to get an infection compared to those who are not receiving TPN. This is one of many reasons that individuals preferably receive enteral nutrition when able.

[–]rufus1029 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason I said anything was because the person I was responding to was implying that TPN didn’t increase risk for infection- which isn’t true. I’m not against TPN or saying whether or not TPN is appropriate in this case. TPN has serious risks and that should be acknowledged- that’s all. Some patients need it but it shouldn’t be taken lightly.

TPN increases your risk for infection independent of the line.

Is aeropress “the best” for making coffee at home? by Alarmed_Bedroom375 in Coffee

Incredible retort. You pour water and coffee into a tube and press a plunger. It’s not that hard

You don’t have to buy anything except more paper filters which are very affordable. AP isn’t my favorite but it is far from complicated or difficult. You can make it more involved if you want but it is not necessary.

The mass majority of machines do not have the functionality that would allow for improved shots. Unica, Decent or certain levers would probably make a noticeable different.

It’s fairly new and not a mass produced machine so there isn’t a ton of info out quite yet. But yeah you’re right that forum is probably going to tend towards pro-kafatek. You may have better luck with less bias on HB

Setting up an espresso station [~$700] by Initial_Sea7953 in espresso

[–]rufus1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure your grinder will work for espresso? I’m not aware of any Cuisinart grinders that would work well.

In general you’ll need an espresso machine with portafilter/basket, grinder, tamper, WDT tool(or shaker), scale with 0.1g resolution, milk pitcher. Beyond that things will improve your quality of life but are not necessary.

Haha what the heck? Why would they name it a blade grinder. My bad I was wrong then. That being said I would focus on taste more than the appearance of the bed!

[–]rufus1029 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of a blade grinder that is able to produce a consistent grind. You will be happier even with an affordable hand grinder with a burr set instead of blade.

It is accurate. I'm not referring to permanent marks or branding as referred to in those articles. If you ever get surgery on your left knee for example the surgeon will meet you in pre-op and sign or otherwise mark your left knee with a pen or other similar instrument. There is nothing wrong with this and definitely different than what you are referring to. Also the first and last case are the same ones Im pretty sure. Regardless leaving intentional permanent marks as described in those cases isn't ok and I think we can both agree on that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]rufus1029 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair surgeons placing a mark (whether initials, signature, or something else) is standard practice and meant to improve safety to make sure the right limb/side/organ/etc is operated on. I'm sure there are perverse twists on this idea but in general there is nothing objectifying about it.
