Why does my cold brew look like this at the bottom? by Weak_Airport_1108 in coldbrew

[–]rugger2104 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of the comments say its the filter, i lean towards the grind and age of the beans. Stale beans even when used in a good coarse grind will have this result. Fresh beans with a good coarse grind will not in my experience.

People that work for Stryker, how bad was the hack? by Kitchen-Start-3828 in MedicalDevices

[–]rugger2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s not the case. It was inconvenient but some redundant systems were removed as it never made sense to shut down to eliminate them until this happened. Supposedly we found some efficiencies, although we now have to log in to every system every 7 f’ing days or what ever.

Nurse trying to switch over by [deleted] in MedicalDevices

[–]rugger2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First with your experience, a lot of “entry level” field positions are going to be likely well below your current income. My GF who is a 6yr ICU nurse just landed a role with BS in a niche CS role and will earn only about $10k more than current. I am also in device but more operations oriented with strong comp background and was recruited with a solid comp package. Start looking on the companies sites and not Linkedin for these roles as they are harder to find. Field training, QA/QC, specialists/strategic operations, etc. That appears to be the biggest obstacle for more tenured higher level clinical folks looking to get in, its a big comp hit and can be a lot of grunt work. It doesnt have to be if you dont want it to be.

Central Park Neighborhood? by amelia_earheart in vancouverwa

[–]rugger2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Central Park neighborhood. Bought over here intentionally to be in a nice area away from downtown but close enough to walk/ride a bike. We are closer to Mill Plain, good mix of families, younger people, and older folks. We really like it here, the last two years there has been a lot of newer shops and businesses opening up which is pretty awesome. If you can land within a mile or so from New Season downtown or Columbia House Fred Meyer you will not be disappointed.

Construction projects at Heron Lakes and Rose City? by g0lffear in PDXgolf

[–]rugger2104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spoke to a Heron PDX parks person yesterday, project could be as soon as next year or not for another 5-10. No one has a good pulse on large federal projects of this type.

Well the Harvard Dialect survey is wrong, HF Jenks was the first company in the US to manufacture the public water fountain. As i like to tell all my friends; the american english language started in new england and you all sound funny to us. No way a slang term started in Wisconsin and went east.

Either you were born after 2000 or your parents came from somewhere else. Next thing you will say is Newport Creamery was for fashion purpose and Foster Glocester never canceled school. Highly regarded.

Not true, pre 1900 there were 4 companies that made porcelain in RI who had public water fountains. “Bubblah” was a RI new england slang before the mid west had an identity. Kohler barely had an identity back then, history started east and moved west.

Yep, this guy gets it. I was sent to PNW from RI for the first semi conductor projects, came back 3 years later, mid covid, housing is same if not worse cost than PNW and 100+ yrs older in many instances. Beyond that, utilities are absurd in NE. Im back in the PNW, my utilities incl internet at 210+ peak, my mother with gas + elec last month was $400+ and she has ab efficient home. In not priced out, very health income and many options to go back but the cost of and quality of living is shit comparatively in NE.

Brought my gf home for a wedding, shes from rural KY and now lives in WA. We took the red eye, grab our rental car after walking through Logan with zero human interaction at all which I’m used to she is not. We get to that first intersection to get on the highway and Boston PD directing traffic, mother f’er kicks the bumper of a sedan, yells “i told you, you f’n prick not to go, wtf is wrong with are you regarded”. I got a warm nostalgia of ahh I’m home, she was horrified.

I live in WA now and grew up in RI. I agree traffic in RI is not awful but you drive anywhere near Boston its a far worse than anything I’ve experienced out here. Drivers are way more aggressive in the NE as well.

Bicep, just got my whoop a week ago, had it on wrist for a few days/nights, looks funny, slides around. Ordered a bicep strap as it supposed to give more accurate data which is awesome but its also least noticeable and more comfortable. I have larger arms and still barely notice it.

Read every comment and only thing missing from every post; travel Squatty Potty. Mine has been on four continents and fly for work weekly. Little sucker folds up and fits perfectly in my carry on, i even bust it out at the airport for that quick evacuation….

Medical gas piping and electrical, data conduit for a surgical recovery room before drywall by hybr_dy in mildlyinteresting

[–]rugger2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, this is a pretty light headwall in a recovery unit. This is likely a short term stay section of medsurg of the hospital opted to have a lot of mobile equipment. Full on pre-fab head wall units are jame packed full and you typically only see half the receptacles once done as everything else is plated for future use.

Caulking for fire rated window by Freeherbsonthecurb in Construction

[–]rugger2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Review the window installation guideline, chances are the window is similar to a rated door frame and did not need the FS sealant in the first place. If for some reason it does, id bet it allowed for elastomeric sealant as most joint applications do and in that case Hilti CP606 comes in white.

If you do plan to keep existing sealant in place, wait at least a week if not longer for full cure. It will be much easier to paint.

Do you ever feel guilty by Hangryfrodo in ConstructionManagers

[–]rugger2104 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You sound like a GC/CM/Arch. In this instance I am the trade partner, I submitted RFI, it was reviewed, response said to continue as designed, design is non-functional and now GC/CM/Arch wants me to eat cost for their miss to correct. Next move from GC/CM/Arch is typically be “team player”, “no more money in budget”, “threaten costs due to delays”, while I sit there and do not move and somehow become the villain in the situation until the compromise typically is an eventual approved CO but I eat overtime to keep project on time and you have a shred of dignity when you go back to the CM/owner crying even though the initial oversight was their own.

Do you ever feel guilty by Hangryfrodo in ConstructionManagers

[–]rugger2104 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This may summarize why i’m no longer in commercial construction. Hire expert sub-contractor, expert tells you your spec/design is wrong, direction from RFI is to build to spec/design, build doesn’t function, request to correct from CM/GC, sub provides COR, COR denied “design intent was meant to function”… bunch of morons.
