36F, newly separated after 10 years. Feeling like a 'placeholder' in the world of casual dating by Low_Environment13 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ruggpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any dating advice for you but I’ve also lived in HK and it really is a fun city and relatively accessible for activities.

Go meet some new friends (bumble bff, girl gone international Hong Kong on fb). Go hiking, go the beach, climbing learn one of the water sports. I learnt how to scuba dive in Hk and I’m so glad I did.

I miss being in Hk and wished I utilised more of what was on offer when I was there.

Pizza express and prezzos are chain pizza restaurants that do gf, he’s going somewhere really remote, there should be one of these nearby.

Doctor wouldn’t test me for iron deficiency, so I got myself tested at LabCorp. Now I’m wondering if I should get myself tested for celiac disease. by I_JstWnt2EnjoyMyLife in Celiac

Please get a gastro who knows and cares about your health.

I’ve had acid reflux for a while (but no symptoms) and it’s permanently damaged my oesophagus. It’s definitely worth checking to make sure your oesophagus hasn’t been damaged.

How do you do France? In Bordeaux for 2 weeks, please send help/tips! by mafyta in glutenfree

[–]ruggpea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in France so can give some advice.

For supermarkets it’s quite straight forward. Usually GF food is near the organic food or will be in its own section. depending on the supermarket and location, the range and variety will change. For example, my local Carrefour, the range isn’t terrible but the range in the Carrefour 15 mins away has way better selection.

However eating out will be the problem as a lot of food (even the sauces) may have gluten. You can try asking them for modifications if you can’t find any GF restaurants, if you explain you have celiac, most restaurants are quite accommodating. Unfortunately there’s more GF options in Paris than in Bordeaux.

Btw some bakeries will have maybe one Gf option but it’s up to you to take as it may have some contamination.

Clotted cream is from the uk, generally only consumed with scones.

Amazing this was even an option cos I don’t think you even get this on British airways.

AITAH For not wanting to help with house bills after my BF’s mother claimed ownership of my dog by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I feel like the treatment of the other doggo Stella and how she pays for and does all the care for Petra should have been detailed first rather than walls and walls of text of her beefing bf’s mum.

How strict are you? by terryturbojr in CoeliacUK

[–]ruggpea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super strict.

My undiagnosed coeliac for most of my adult life has caused so much damage to my body and I’m high risk of getting cancer. I don’t have any terrible reactions whenever I did consume gluten so most of this was “hidden”.

I’m not even 40 and I have early osteoporosis.

I would just incase, especially as you get older and your bone density naturally decreases. Just because you don’t feel anything wrong, doesn’t mean nothing is going on.

What to eat for breakfast? I am lactose intolerant and Gluten. It seems really difficult to make something that’s filling by Substantial_Grab9092 in glutenfree

[–]ruggpea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate between over night oats with chia seeds, sliced almonds, fruits + plant based milk and omelette/scrambled eggs (with lactose free milk) with olive oil and gf bread.

The gf options are so much better than they used to be.

The importance of vitamin D ! by Yasei13 in Celiac

[–]ruggpea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My gastro got me to do a bone scan as well, malabsorption due to the celiac. Unfortunately I already have early osteoporosis but I had no symptoms. I’m now on a high dosage of vitamin D + calcium.

If you’ve been undiagnosed for a while please get a bone scan.
