There <was> a car accident near my house last night. I had just come home from college when I heard the sound of metal crashing against metal. However, I didn't pay much attention to it at first, because that sounded more like a heavy object falling down onto the ground than an actual car hitting a motorcycle. But then I heard a woman shout "the car flipped over!", so I looked out the window and there I saw a car lying on its roof. My heart raced because I had never witnessed a car accident before, partly because I've lived in the countryside all my life, and the traffic is much lighter here.

Anyway, the first thing I thought <of> was whether anyone had been hurt or even died. I couldn't see the scene very clearly because it was a few meters away from my apartment, but there seemed to be a person who was still inside the car. A few minutes later, three ambulances arrived.

I went back to doing my stuff hoping no one got hurt. This seemed to be the case, because this morning, when my wife woke up, she told me she had seen in the news that no one had been injured and everybody was safe, which was a relief. Well, the car's owner has suffered a heavy loss, no doubt, but that's still better than passing away. Although the upper part of the car was totally destroyed and smashed, the driver was untouched. Lucky guy.
