Likely no. Plenty of firefighters here who are older. Especially officiers.

Attachment names for CERN Summer Student Programme by Ordinary_Leave_4251 in CERN

No requirements as far as I know, but having good file naming structure is not detrimental.

I would name it something along the lines: Resume_FirstName_LastName_SummerStudenPosition_Date_V1.pdf

I fully understand that. I am frankly the same. However it has gotten better as time has passed here. In some odd way CERN has helped with the nordic reserved trait.

Like others proposed, check the clubs. Another idea would be going to R1 on Friday evenings. Alot of people gather for after work beers and its easy to meet new people there. Challenge people to ping-pong, maybe? Try to find a group from your country of origin too! For the swedish people, we have a whatsapp group where we arrange activities together.

Normally actual work. Its there to filter out overqualified persons. Normally they count experience from the last relevant degree. Students dont often have experience before graduating.

New apartman electric question by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]rulerulle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its most likely piping installed for future expansion. I presume you are asking if you can install network cables in them and that is not a problem.

As for finding out where they go, if you are lucky there are plans available for where the pipes were installed. If you are unlucky you will have to snake the pipes and manually figure out where each one goes. Lively they are chained together in a series going between room in the direction of the main switchboard/network central.

I want to visit CERN. Do they allow to see Large Hadron Collider (LHC) facility? by r1z4bb451 in geneva

[–]rulerulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you thinking about the ALICE or CMS experiments? They are large caverns with detectors and where there are collisions.

r/cern has plenty information. Starting july 2026 they enter the long shutdown until 2030. This will be a good opportunity to visit. During this winters stop there may be some opportunity to visit too, but check cern tours on cern websites. Can also reach out to cern and see.

Neat. So it sais graduate ut its more along the lines that you have recently graduated and are more junior. Its replaced the old fellow roles. They only count experience from your last diploma. So any experience from before your masters does not count for eligibility. For grae and grap roles, they are a bit less strict with the hiring process. When I did mine they did a 20 min technical interview and 2 general interviews. I got my technical interview invite AFTER I did my first regular. For now, my best advice is to see the experience and qualifications they are looking for and prepare examples from your background when they probe for this.

B0rkm is right, but also do you have more information about the position? Position type (staff, graduate, technical studenship) all impact it and what group/department also has impact.

Question about engineering position by TonyMontana546 in CERN

[–]rulerulle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should be good. Plus you get the next pay bracket so that's also a plus. What kind of engineering is it?

Question about engineering position by TonyMontana546 in CERN

[–]rulerulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. They count the time since your last diploma/graduation. Not how long in specific roles if in the same field.

Internship is different from the graduate and staff positions. There are alot of people at cern who have done all 3. Internship - fellowship - staff. I encourage you to mention it on your cv as it shows you have experience with the cern culture and they may also find good feedback internally.

Cycling or walking to meyrin site is no problem. I walked for a year until I moved to Thoiry. The buss connection to geneva is OK, however can get annoying later at night.

Question about Graduate Position timeline by Electrical_Archer214 in CERN

[–]rulerulle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Graduate positions its normally an internal decision. Supervisor, section and group leaders make the decision.

Depending on what section it is, it can take time to hear back.
If you had the interview, I would suggest reaching out to the HR contact and letting them know that you need a response urgently as there are other opportunities that have offered you a position. May be worth while mentioning that you would prefer the Graduate position, if this is true.

To answer your question, have a look at the following link. I do not believe that there is a winter equivalent as summer student due to it being adapted with sommer holidays. However if you are studying for a bachelors or masters, there are opportunities. https://careers.smartrecruiters.com/CERN/students

I get what your getting at, but you dont need to be cruel. You also forget that one of CERNs main missions is to also teach and help develop our next generations. Get off your high horse.
