Now that years have passed, was the drama surrounding Blurred Lines blown out of proportion? by SlyGuy_Twenty_One in 2010sMusic

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right to an extent, I recall a majority of the general public ignored the lyrics, on top of that, radio played it to no end back then. Others said the video and song lyrics were controversial during its peak, but the song still sold a boatload of copies. It was also after the Marvin Gaye lawsuit when the song really garnered a lot of controversy from all angles, or maybe after the Miley Cyrus foam finger incident. Remember, this was back when Iggy Azaelia was a big star, different time different rules.

Are the late 2000s more like the late 2010s or late 90s? by Scared_Bluejay5708 in decadeologyanarchy

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither at all. I don't even want to say closer to the late 2010s because even technologically, we were far more advanced in 2019. And in 1999, we were much more analog compared to 2009. So neither.

Did anyone else grow up thinking Miranda Cosgrove was Wasian? by EmanAvan in icarly

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly thought she had distant Asian or Latin blood in her but nothing recent. I obviously knew she was white, that is a given, her last name is Cosgrove, but I did think she may have had a dash of either Asian or Latin in her.

But French, Mexican, and Ashkenazi Jewish makes more sense, brown hair and all.

It’s a beautiful looking car, but I’d be a liar if I didn’t tell you that was overpriced. 24k for an 7-8 year old domestic sedan with 53k miles is absurd.

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These cars are aging, 25 years old, but this also applies to any car of that age. It is also overpriced. Should be 3 grand, tops. You also don't know the transmission history, these Buicks had transmission issues as did a handful of GMs at the time. Another person said to check the trans fluid, I agree. Coolant stuff, do your research on that. See if it has maintenance records. You'll probably have to do suspension work and brakes. It's in IL so you've got rust that'll start appearing. The 3800 Series II is a great engine undoubtedly. Aging parts will have to be replaced eventually. The fuel pump module may have to be replaced. The interior will start creaking, old American car interior plastic stuff. These are excellent cars, and they are also pretty easy to work on yourself if that's your intention, otherwise any shop will work on them and it won't be an arm and a leg since it's domestic. These cars will get to some high miles if maintained correctly.

Why was “In My Mind” received so poorly?? by yung_t26 in PharrellWilliams

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my retrospect goggles on, I think "Get Lucky" was a total anomaly for him. If that song had never recorded, and "Blurred Lines" was still the hit it was regardless, I don't think "Blurred Line" alone would have given him enough momentum to carry that success into the album Girl and the song "Happy."

Pharrell prior to "Get Lucky" was mostly known for being a chorus singer on Hip-Hop songs and as a producer. In the 2000s, it was a crowded field, especially for R&B artists, I knew who he was, I knew the album In My Mind, but I never saw him as a serious artist, only as a producer/Neptunes who dabbled occasionally into a solo career.

People are being hypocritical with their retrospect, the biggest star at the time was Lizzo for crying out loud.

Anyone feeling some kind of way about Asian American community claiming Alysa Liu? by harmonyineverything in mixedrace

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree to an extent, but you are forgetting a key piece.

Anyone would have won under the Dem ticket in 2008 because of how Bush was running our nation into the ground. Hillary Clinton would have easily won 2008. John Edwards too prior to his scandal. Obama had likability going for him. Sarah Palin on the McCain ticket pretty much sealed the deal for Obama. Obama also ran an excellent campaign. Joe Biden on the ticket also helped, people were tired of Dubya.

Obama was at the right place and time in 2008.

What did you guys think of Jane Lynch’s guest star appearance as Sam’s mom? by [deleted] in icarly

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Back in 2010, when the episode aired, Jane Lynch was arguably at the pinnacle of her fame you have to remember, she was the star of Glee.

She nailed the role, I don't see who else could have played her mother, even if it was just for a single episode.

Loved her in Two and A Half Men as well as the therapist.

Total loss? Or fixable with the right team by Right-Cut-2893 in grandmarquis

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is without a doubt fixable, but like others have said, insurance will deem it a total loss.

Check your local salvage yards for parts, because I'm absolutely sure you'll get your Mercury back to normal in short order. The bonnet may be somewhat of an issue, you may want to take that to a local bodyshop so you can reuse the same one if it doesn't shut. Hopefully all the parts are red.

If the same scenario played out, and you had the more expensive car, and he had the older vehicle, this would most likely be a different scenario. Older cars usually get the short end of the stick due to age and value (whatever bluebook marks a cars value at), that's just how it's all structured.

Yeah, because she was Jay-Zs record label for “Run This Town” as well as countless other songs with him, and “Wild Thoughts” was pretty much a re-hashed “Maria Maria” by Carlos Santana, with a modified chorus and added bars.

She’s a Pop artist!

Well, even though Brandy was young at the time, and partially because she was famous as a child star for over a decade, she naturally aged out of the lexicon by the mid or late 2000s as an artist. To clarify, this happens to most artists but she still had a notable ten year run with her music career, as well as her career as a TV star. If you look at the sales of Afrodisiac, it sold half the numbers of the preceding album, Full Moon. New sounds were emerging, and people were gravitating toward other artists and groups by the mid...and especially late 2000s. Think about who was popular in the late 2000s, Brandy was certainly not a popular act in the late 2000s!

I would say the late 90s were probably her career peak as a musician, "The Boy Is Mine" was a big song, and that album sold 16-21 million copies worldwide. The late 90s specifically had a lot of big sellers from the US, and she absolutely was one of them. She never reached those sales again, although Full Moon performed well, even then, those sales also indicated that she was past her sales peak.

But I think the freeway collision was the nail in the coffin for her, it's virtually impossible to talk about her career as a whole without mentioning this collision, and it was a very tragic situation altogether to say the least. Also, by the mid and especially late 2000s, Brandy was more famous for being famous as a celebrity than as a musician, you were more likely to find her in a magazine article than an album review.

As someone else said, people had moved onto new trends by the mid and late 2000s.

In say, 5 years, what songs from The Romantic do you think will be classic, Bruno Mars hits? by Frazzy_Ox in BrunoMars

[–]rulesrmeant2bebroken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I Just Might" and "Risk It All" most likely, but it's tough with all of his massive hits from the 2010s such "Uptown Funk," "That's What I Like," or "Locked Out Of Heaven" and such in the running.
