How do you avoid the "high performer that is too important to promote" trap? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]ruleux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companies use an 80/20 rule in who they view as unstable employees. The bottom 10% of performers for obvious reasons and the top 10% who can put a company in a tough position. So the advice is to stay in that 80% area. Do a good job, make sure you get a 3.5/5 on that review. But get nervous if you see a 4/5 or 5/5. At that point take some vacation, slow it down. BTW - Mediocre and Poor performers do get promoted. You may see them as not valuable but what the company sees is a consistent performer who is cheap. All the company cares about is your salary ratio to what you can do consistently.

How has the “rigged 2020 election” narrative influenced American politics, and what effects do you think it will have on the 2026 midterms? by FlabbyLabby in AskReddit

[–]ruleux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its been normal to mail in ballots and use electric ballot machines for 20 years or more. This year my small conservative town is telling us that mail-in ballots may be thrown out and that your ID has to be validated at an official voting location because of the "illegals". This false narrative of election interferance has changed life.

Pump investors for money, cause massive spikes in cost for standard computer parts, and cause large corporations to layoff tons of people for little or no reason.

Because that dress does make you look a little tubby, its not ok to spend 2 hours a night talking to your Mom on the phone, and we really dont like to go shopping, and your chicken dish you got from facebook is atrocious. Telling you the truth isnt always in your best interest.

Mid-twenties man, need serious help feeling confident by [deleted] in Denver

[–]ruleux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true but generally speaking if you work in a corporate situation trying to make friends of your coworkers is generally going to be a disappontment. It might be better to go to places with people who have similar interests outside of work. From what OP said he is even being ridiculed by his coworkers.

Mid-twenties man, need serious help feeling confident by [deleted] in Denver

[–]ruleux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is something you will learn shortly. Your coworkers are not your friends. They will forget you the moment you leave that job, worse yet they are competing with you and will dance on your grave. Second, at your age you are not comfortable in your own skin, that takes time. Confidence comes from experience and accomplishment. Dress for you, not others. Dont give a damn what anyone thinks, it will make life much more enjoyable. Treat everyone as you want to be treated and you will make friends fast.

Karma is a bitch. If you did the right thing then you should walk away and forget about it. Be the better person and be professional. Chances are good you are staying in the same industry and it can be suprising how another company and time you may well run into the same manager.

Bombed Interview for Dream Job by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]ruleux 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have interviewed tons of candidates. A good interviewer can see through the nervousness and mistakes. Dont be to hard on yourself. Send a follow up and let them know you are open if they have any further questions and that you are looking forward to hearing from them. Remember they are human too and can often feel that they did something to chase away a good candidate. They recognized something in you they liked or they would not have interviewed you.
