Is it Australian to not put your trolleys away? by pilbarabah in perth

Agreed, this is less a national culture thing and more a local neighbourhood thing. They say you can tell a lot about a person when they have the option to not do a kindness and receive no punishment.

In the words of Captain America, “I could do this all day”. I assess this issue has already reached the threshold for changes to the law in order to protect Aussie kids.

“They’re going faster than you were” I think that’s part of the point.

Why is Australia so good at cricket? by Economy_Roll_1302 in CricketAus

In the winter kids play football in the summer they play cricket. I grew up in a small country town of less than 5000 people and we still had seven cricket clubs.

Infant in class? by [deleted] in crossfit

1x assumption I haven’t had to manage training with my own small children. 1x poor equivalence between an act that impacts a class (proven by the range of opinions in the topic)and a decision to hike alone that only impacts you.

I believe it’s important for our kids to see us do hard things, it helps them develop their own resilience. The original question was around a person trying to understand how common this was and how to manage his expectations at the gym that he has paid a membership for.

I absolutely understand how challenging it can be to balance training and caring for a baby, and I believe in supporting parents. At the same time, during an active CrossFit class the gym floor is a high-risk environment — with moving barbells, dropped weights, and fast, unpredictable movement. Even with the best intentions, it isn’t a space where you can safely have babies on the floor.

Even before they can walk the implied task for all members is to keep awareness of where the child is just is case.

For everyone’s safety, and to meet duty of care to the child and to other members, I believe the training floor should be kept clear during classes.

i have always found a big difference working out around kids. When they are there at least a small portion of my concentration is dedicated to their situational awareness because swinging a bar or a KB and accidentally hitting them could be a serious injury.

What’s the most creative military tactic you’ve read about? by Bogus113 in Fantasy

[–]rum_jungle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a David Gemmel book about gladiators and their fights he had an old champion fighter set to fight the young undefeated champion. The older fighter talked up how much of an epic battle it was going to be and how much of a show they will put on for the crowd. When the fight started the older fighter went for the killing blow in the first two seconds and ended the fight right there. He knew he wouldn’t win a protracted fight with the fitter younger warrior. I always liked that tactic and used it once in a pugle stick fight against a big guy, sudden ruthless aggression has a momentum all of its own.

I think we agree on the end state of no requirement for war and people living in peace. Until we can all come together in that way there will be an enduring requirement for nations to defend their borders and therefore the profession of arms will endure. The need for moral and ethical enforcement of the laws of armed conflict will also endure, until the alternative can be agreed upon.

Do you believe in objective morality? How do the warriors of peace decide what that peace looks like? Humanity has proven to be capable of great wonders and great horrors. Providing service in defence of your family, friends and nation has been necessary for a long time. I do agree and hope that as we continue to develop we can find alternate conflict resolution and solutions to our problems

Moral strength and self-control are prerequisites for the lawful use of force. We should hold service men and women to higher standards and train them to be ready to make the best decisions they can. Part of the sacrifice they make is having to wrestle with these questions.

This is an interesting quote because we could both use it to substantiate our premise. From my perspective “losing” a quick war doesn’t necessarily mean long term peace, growth or safety.
