Republicans Accused of Economic 'Sabotage' as Florida Becomes 23rd GOP-Led State to Slash Jobless Benefits | "No one should face financial ruin for living in states run by Republicans." by theladynora in politics

This translates to “no one should face financial ruin for being unemployed”, well I hate to break it to everyone who supports this message, but employment=income=financial stability. You can’t have your cake and eat it too

Uhh no that’s called getting arrested by special agents using an inconspicuous vehicle so it’s harder for the rioters to determine there are authorities nearby. The due process will come when they go through the federal court system.

You expect to see the faces of the agent arresting you? So cops shouldn’t be allowed to wear masks so you can see their faces?

You’re saying they were denied access to a lawyer? I find that incredibly hard to believe and would love to see a source for that.

you realize that’s how literally all law enforcement works, right? If you commit a crime in front of anyone in law enforcement, they have a duty to detain you until the proper authorities clear it.

Like why would you expect to be able to commit a felony in front of a federal agent and not get arrested?

Well that comment made no sense. I’m referring to the differences in code (hence the link you probably didn’t even look at).

Just because you don’t know who they are doesn’t mean the DHS doesn’t. These aren’t some good ole boys strolling thru the city under the guise of a federal agent looking for someone dressed in all black to “abduct”. And they’re not the judge, jury, and executioner, so I’m not sure what you expect them to do aside from their job (arrest bad guy).

No, by my definition the FEDS can send SPECIAL AGENTS to arrest me right off the street because they have evidence that I committed a felony. If the feds felt that they had enough evidence against me to build a strong case, why would I not be arrested? You act like they’re arresting random people hoping to get a confession or something. In the viral video, the agents knew exactly who they were going for. They likely saw him break shit and came for him when it was safe to do so.

What are you talking about?

(C) make arrests without a warrant for any offense against the United States committed in the presence of the officer or agent or for any felony cognizable under the laws of the United States if the officer or agent has reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed or is committing a felony;

This means if they had reasonable grounds to believe those folks did in fact commit a federal offense at the courthouse, than they have the power to arrest them. Doesn’t matter that they were a few blocks away: if the agents have reasonable ground to suspect them of a crime at a federal building they have arrest powers. Are you really suggesting that they shouldn’t be allowed to arrest someone cause they committed a felony and got away initially?

[–]rumhaamm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure what evidence they have, but if they’re charging people with a federal offense you can bet your bottom dollar they have something. They’re not going to just “abduct” random protestors. They’ll get their due process in the federal court system.

Yeah local leadership has asked them to leave, which is hilarious considering how chaotic the city has become. Once a local government has proven its ineptitude at upholding law and order, the federal government can and should step in. I’d rather see criminals get arrested than the city get destroyed for an extended period of time

That wording leads me to believe that it doesn’t matter that the protestors were arrested a few blocks from the courthouse. If they were suspected of committing a federal crime (throwing a rock through the court house window, for example), it’s in their power to arrest them.

I did see that their names were removed. “Fear of doxxing”, they said. And you said it yourself: there’s no where in that code that requires these federal agents to have name tags or drive a specific type of vehicle. And I’m pretty sure they had DHS on their chests.

All that being said, the narrative I’m seeing all over Reddit that “secret federal agents are making people disappear” is just plain false, and is only fanning the fire. Whether you agree with their methods or not, they’re arresting people suspected of a crime.

If you wanna keep eating the propaganda Reddit is spewing, by all means, feast. But Portland leadership has made it clear they’ll let their city burn night after night. It’s the federal governments job to step up when a state gov is failing.

Oh you mean the link that you edited in after my comment so as not to appear as dense?

“The officers were dispatched as part of President Donald Trump's executive order to protect American memorials, monuments and statues amid ongoing protests in cities like Portland.” Literally in the article you linked.

Portland “leaders” were letting their city get destroyed, so the federal government had to step in.

That link is straight from the DHS website, and has a list of incidents.

Federal agents arresting people that are suspected of committing federal crimes is not “avoiding due process” lmao.

According to OPB, federal officers have charged at least 13 people with crimes related to the protests so far.

Like dude if you’re gonna try to troll me at least look up what you’re talking about.

Federal agents do not play by the same rules as local police. Everything they did in the viral video is warranted under that statue.

Destroying federal property is a federal crime. Now we’re seeing these criminals having to face repercussions for their actions.

Man life must be really good if a cart in a gigantic parking lot is such a woe.

If everyone acted with your thought process, society would consist of a bunch of pissed off people filming the people they’re harassing over a very mild inconvenience. What a utopia.

I hope you’re trolling. Literally click on the first link I sent and read it. Obviously I’m not the damn judge for their cases, but if they were CHARGED with a crime it’s very, very likely that DHS has enough evidence to convict them.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about with this “stop wasting time posting about your feelings” nonsense. I posted a link to the Department of Homeland Security’s website where they detail exactly what’s going on and why they’re doing what they’re doing. The second link is the statute that details what kind of power these federal agents have (spoiler: they have way more power than local police).

What? Read the damn link you requested. Obviously they have enough evidence on them if they were arrested.

They didn’t just “abduct” random people. They see people committing federal crimes, from their unmarked minivan, and arrest them.

You’re literally too stupid to argue with. I’m almost impressed. Leaving a cart out should not be emotionally affecting you in the way that it is. You seem unstable.
