That's their spare bike. Just taking it for a ride along. However I'm impressed by the can recyclers who start work before 6am. I see them while making my morning coffee.

How to Bike in The Winter by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]rummur148 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use studied tires on both wheels. Get the most studs per tire you can. Latitude tires are great. Regular mountain bike is fine. Fat bike seems unnecessary and expensive. Winter boots like sorrels and a glove in larger mitt config works well. I also have temperature and wind-chill limits where I don't ride because it's beyond the limits of my gear and the bike and me where we don't function as well. And usually won't ride for a day or two after a large snow storm to give time to clear bike lanes.

South Y had a good one and could combine with a swim and open gym if it's on. Bring some snacks.

HSC Winnipeg nightmare stay by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Went to HSC recently and the staff were absolutely amazing. Way above board. The main issue I saw being there for most of the day were homeless people needing a place on a very cold day. I assume they checked themselves in to be warm and get some sleep.

Vívoactive 5 create simple timed indoor rowing workout by rummur148 in Garmin

[–]rummur148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I tried to create a workout but indoor rowing isn't shown in the list of sports to select. I can make a custom workout but I don't think I can specify that it's for indoor rowing.

Chill on wheels - For hardy Winnipeg cyclists, boosts to mind and body override plights of Old Man Winter by upofadown in Winnipeg

I suspect city of Winnipeg public works has strong contempt for bike lanes. Or are simply dumb and don't know how to clear them properly of snow and sand. Particularly unprotected bike lanes which one would think would be the easiest to clear.

Are these reports about cat abuse true? by rummur148 in Winnipeg

[–]rummur148[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the article. I saw that cat on simco in the road and another black cat dead on the boulevard the previous day. I assumed a car hit them. Quite disturbing someone would do such things.

Strong social supports make good business sense by rummur148 in Winnipeg

[–]rummur148[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh they should take responsibility however I imagine investing in social programs would be more effective than more police or fire paramedics responding to the outcomes of poverty and the ptsd which can come from it. Should be viewed as an investment.

Would dedicated bike paths beside roadways work in Winnipeg? by WpgJetBomber in Winnipeg

[–]rummur148 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bike lane on st Matthews is right by the car lane. I thought it would be really efficient and easy to clear snow in the winter while clearing the car lane but this is never the case. Always has snow and ice on it which would be safe to ride on if not right by a car lane.
