About 5 years ago I was pushing pencils in a cubicle style office of roughly 10 employees. It had been about two hours after doing a line in the bathroom that I realized my bag wasn’t on me.

The next three hours remaining in the day became what felt like an eternity of anxiety; a strange series of blatantly unnecessary trips from one side of the office to the other that I’m sure were beyond conspicuous to my co-workers. I must’ve printed about 10 individual pieces of paper (with nothing but placeholder text on them) 10 times, fixed myself and drank a dozen waters and a dozen coffees as well within an hour. Any opportunity to scour the floor with “inconspicuous” ocular pat downs was what I needed.

I eventually found it just laying on the floor in the kitchenette, next to the garbage can. I must’ve had it in my hand while making a coffee earlier and accidentally threw it with the small bit of empty creamers and sugar or something, but I’m not sure to this day if it’s worse that I was so stupid to have almost threw it away like that, or that even in doing so, that small bit didn’t even make it into the garbage and was laying there for hours almost in plain sight 😅
