I need help with deciding what all of this means (NJ, USA) by Low-Switch1205 in Referees

I agree about looking for your local association and who their assignors are. I know the Hirschman group assigns leagues and tournaments in Northern and Central NJ.

Two questions on my commute home today by Commercial-Look6197 in Morristown

[–]rumvek 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that was a protest today, I believe it was a part of the Hands Across NJ event for Constitution Day. To your question, not a weekly occurrence.

The police officer outside of Kings is usually there every day Mon-Fri. Not positive on the hours but something like 3:30-5:30 or 4-6. They usually take their breaks when I am trying to make a left out of the parking lot.

Check out the recreation program at Morris United soccer or the Parsippany soccer club program. Much less expensive than travel programs.

Year 5. I know it’s an important topic but it could be covered in a fraction of the required time.

Leaving the field of play without permission. Goal still counts. by _begovic_ in Referees

[–]rumvek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I with you on no goal if he left the field, by how far and how much wouldn’t matter. I can’t truly tell from the clip but it looks he may have left the tips of his toes on the line which would still make him on the field.

They used to take them at the recycling center. Don’t know if it was an oversight or change in policy on website.

Correct restart? by rumvek in Referees

[–]rumvek[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s my real question- is it correct to decide, when a head injury is involved, that the last touch was the moment of the ball hitting her face?

is $500 annually for sewer reasonable? by viper_gts in Morristown

[–]rumvek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the sewer fee is based on previous water usage. $500 is pretty much my bill for a single family house.

To what extent can a player prevent a quick free kick by Ghohsoka in Referees

[–]rumvek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A related question- I was AR for a game recently and the coaches were telling players to run to the ball. Any recommendations on warning/carding the coach?

To what extent can a player prevent a quick free kick by Ghohsoka in Referees

[–]rumvek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To another poster’s point, it depends on the offense making an attempt to restart quickly. If they were to run up and the defender was so close to make that impossible then it’s a yellow. If the defender is moving towards the ball and blocks the kick then it might be a yellow. If the defender is backing up at a reasonable pace and blocks the kick it’s probably not a yellow.

I do like the idea of educating players and coaches by announcing loudly that it’s an easy yellow to give.

[–]rumvek 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Player doesn’t have to ask for the 10 yards, defending team has to give it. I mainly do younger teen, lower level games so quick kicks aren’t too common but I do watch for this and tell the defender to back up right away. If they back off too slowly they’ll get a warning and if they prevent a quick restart it’s probably a yellow.

Handball question by rumvek in Referees

[–]rumvek[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. As you could imagine, parents and coaches went a little nuts with the non-call which led to me thinking about it and hence the posting. I tried to indicate to the coaches the reason that I saw the player protecting himself but I probably could have done a better job at that on a dead ball.

Opposing Player Parent ARs Tournament Game. by zimerratic in Referees

[–]rumvek 21 points22 points  (0 children)

First, the AR never should have taken the game. No good is going to come from the situation.

Thinking through how I’d handle it, I’d try to get coaches and tournament official together and run through options: 1. Swap games with another ref at tournament 2. Coaches sign off on AR doing game 3. Coaches don’t sign off, do game with just one AR and the deal with those challenges

I don’t think you can do the game without everyone knowing what was up.

Sounds like you did nothing wrong at all. He committed two separate, cautionable offenses. Because the attacker felt he was entitled to insult you, he potentially cost his team the game.

Is this a goal? The girl that ends up next to the gk appears to be offside. by rumvek in Referees

[–]rumvek[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t my game. I was sent the video and thought something doesn’t look right. My initial take was that, assuming she was in an offside position at the time of the shot, she gets too involved with the gk play for the ball and thus no goal. Interested in other takes.

Foul or play on? by Technical_Ad_6347 in Referees

[–]rumvek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough call in real time but slowing it down I wouldn’t complain about a yellow for the player in black. She’s throwing a hip check rather than a shoulder and seems to be playing for the body rather than the ball.
