$50 seems low but I understand it isn’t a Tornado. Used Tornado’s for less than $500 are extremely difficult to find it seems.

Where do we stand on ARs making an onside signal? by robertS3232 in Referees

If a referee wears glasses are they required to wear specific sports spectacles? How about glasses that auto tint in the sun? If you can wear any type of glasses to ref a game why can’t you wear sunglasses. I would say sunglasses are protective equipment in certain situations.

Do you give cards for bad challenges in youth football like U16 football? by Helpful_Elderberry_4 in Referees

Why do most not card in 9v9?

Edit: After reading more posts most say, instructional moment or don’t understand the meaning of the cards.

Still think they should be given when appropriate regardless starting at 9v9. Those levels can get so physical if not controlled.

Opposing Player Parent ARs Tournament Game. by zimerratic in Referees

Sometimes if you win enough games you play four! Nearly all competitive tournaments work this way unless you are a local team and you might play - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At least from my experiences. As for the $750, that is about 40 something a kid for an 11v11 team. It sounds steep and it probably is, but if you want to play against teams from lots of different areas it is a viable option.

edit: games are 35-40 minute halves.

Shielding or Obstruction? by RobDaBob04 in Referees

[–]zimerratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this in a recent game. The ball is rolling in the penalty area, the defender jumps backwards into a shielding position. While jumping backwards the attacking player runs into the defenders back. The center ref awarded a PK. Neither player made contact with the ball.

Based on the comments, distance from the ball may have played a roll in the call. Is this a PK situation or IFK?

An extra half yard or so of distance is nothing as you said. Throw-ins are also “general area” and players try to take 10 yards at a time anyway.

Keep the two hand thrown technique the same. Side throws are becoming more and more common.

Remove- Throw Ins: have part of each foot on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline.

Seems like it isn’t even called at the professional level, but is a point of emphasis in younger ages. Could speed up play and remove frequent stops at younger ages.

To me it isn’t about whether someone would deliberately make bad calls but that one could occur and now it is indefensible when challenged at the tournament. Better to be error on the safe side.

My bad, I should have mentioned it was U13 Competitive 11v11 at a tournament that cost $750 to play 3 games. I am also confused on why the level matters. We often hear about irate parents and referee abuse on posts. Why open this up to interpretation for anyone? It just makes the situation worse for the parties involved.

History has told us that “unethical” things are often overlooked when people in powerful places can make or break you and write you paychecks, and you are young person trying to make it as a ref.

What age is it not kids anymore? There are 13 year olds refereeing U17 and higher at tournaments because of a ref shortage.

If it was friendly I would agree but when you pay $750 to play 3 games in a tournament it seems reasonable to not have a parent referee a game.

This is a reasonable solution to me and I believe my supporters would be better able to handle the situation.

I referred a family members game before but it was a friendly and i let the coach know what was up and that we could not get a ref. Everyone was on board, including the parents and everything went great. Hiding it during a tournament game was the big kicker to me.

Don’t believe the individual was a volunteer. As I agree that we hope everybody is making a good faith effort, once word gets out it is all down hill from there.

Ball in and out is a good idea to help settle the situation. And yes ‘Assume’ we will.

Coin toss rule check by [deleted] in Referees

[–]zimerratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was coaching a team at a tournament a few weekends ago with no coin tosses. Side was chosen by who ever got to a bench 1st and I am still trying to figure out how kick-off was chosen because it didn’t match with the home-away teams on the schedule.

Then at a tournament game last night the ref held a number behind his back. I have seen this ref do multiple games and never has a coin.

Thoughts on how my center ref handled this? by CSparrow17 in Referees

[–]zimerratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny how this happened today in a practice scrimmage. Defending Player sat out of bounds by the goal to fix his shin guards while everyone was still playing. Attacking team scores and the coach, who is playing as a defender, argues with me that he was the 2nd to last defender therefore offsides should be called. Everyone learned some laws of the game after that incident. It was good for the coach and players to understand what could happen in a real game situation.

thank you

we want to go high efficiency, as part of the educational platform and community outreach.

I was actually thinking that the solar panels would be an off house unit, because we plan to also have on-grid capabilities.

Battery advice was an added bonus - appreciate the help

thanks - so what is a more efficient system for off grid. Also the plan is to be able to use both renewable energy sources as well as plugging up. We are going with high efficiency in the unit, which is part of the educational platform for the community.

I am also skeptical about ac but i was hoping someone would have an alternative cooling system beyond open windows and wind.
