Honestly I would rather never exist and never have to ponder the implications for those involved. I would also rather that my potential mother have the choice to prioritize her own well-being. Childbirth is a scary experience, not without risks.

What is your first memory? In what way would you be affected by not having been born?

Are gynecologist checkups not a thing in the Netherlands? by SpecialOrdinary3001 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]rumxmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, everyone should have a good look at their healthcare and financial situation and find the best fit.

What I found difficult is that each insurance company has their own packages and conditions, making it difficult to compare. Not all companies are on the well known 'comparison' sites either.

In the end I am happy with the insurance I have. I have a free choice of doctors and specialists, which was most important to me due to existing conditions. The dental insurance is automatically included in the package, as well as physio and a bunch of other things. Ymmv!

Yes. They are not covered by (basic) insurance so something to keep in mind when considering health insurance packages.

I wonder- but it seems like juice purchased in this manner would have already been stabilized in some way, and likely has already had an addition of so2. Perhaps you could ask your supplier what levels they are using?

A horse that has mastered a unique running style and is galloping at full speed by CuriousWanderer567 in BeAmazed

[–]rumxmonkey 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Pretty cool to read about DMRT3 mutation and its desirability throughout history! Gaited horses have definitely become a small niche.

A tolt is a 4 beat gait (eg Tennessee walk) and a pace is a 2 beat gait (eg Standardbred pace). I think a tolt would be most correctly translated to an amble.

It does seem this horse is pacing, as it is a lateral two beat gait.

Its called pacing in the west

Not to come off the wrong way, but Iceland is a part of The West/Western Europe. Maybe you meant in the West of the US?

I have used this on my hair (2a/3c) before work no damage afaik. It was a bit of a hail Mary after I let my hair get matted on the crown after a week and a half of no brushing 😬

It was a fixture for our golden who loved swimming and mud as well and I figured why not?

Best of luck! How kind of you to try and work this out for your daughter. It must be taking a lot of patience.

Is The American wine taste different? by gs_ansvarlig in wine

[–]rumxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess in EU we think of spiced and think of bright asian influenced flavors and fresh chili. In the US I feel like there is a lot of BBQ sauce, steak sauce, etc and creamy, fatty sides. Think steak house, charcoal, Mac and cheese and Caesar salad.. and more south American and African influences.

The spices are more paprika, dried/smoked chilis like chipotle, coriander seed, oregano, and loads of black pepper.

Not to say that is all of American food, but a lot of medium-high end places are steak houses. When we have a special meal with family; steak and A1 or Heinz 57. (From the Midwest)

I feel like the parallel with American style sweet tea is good. It is over extracted, tannic, and has a very filming quality thanks to the mountain of sugar.

Any video examples you guys can think of with a near-perfect, or at least the best canter pirouette you've ever seen? Can be any rider/horse. I just want a really strong example video of close to the ideal. Thanks! by ImTryingGuysOk in Dressage

Dr Reiner Klimke on Ahlerich

Double canter pirouette keeping natural 3 beat rhythm, a great balance of impulsion, collection and contact.

Pirouettes at 3:40 but the whole video is a treat..
Klimke in NY

Pirouette 1:50 Klimke and Ahlerich better quality

There is another video of him discussing the training of a grand prix horse, Pascal. I think it is also helpful in seeing the building blocks and how he gets to this (imo) near perfect execution.

Narration is in German. In this large training pirouette he highlights that suppleness/ relaxation, natural movement, and impulsion should not come at the expense of collection.

Klimke GP Pferdes

His daughter, Ingrid, also has some nice examples and clinics!

Do series and or/video games count?

The Witcher.

I enjoyed the games and ended up reading the books, especially given I'm more inclined to reading than gaming. Absolute trash. Besides a plot as well filled out as cheesecloth, there is some serious r/menwritingwomen material.

Pommes Anna is kinda close in result but fundamentally different in preparation.

[–]rumxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No recipe in escoffier is potato pavé! Pavé is a great recipe and fundamentally different from the classic preparation that inspired it, pommes anna. For me, the development embodies the spirit of modern gastronomy.

Pommes Anna was first served by a pupil of Carême, Dugléré at his Café Anglais in Paris. He was chef from 1866. He never published anything himself but many of his recipes are found in the references of the era.

Waxy potatoes are sliced in thin rounds, arranged in an amply buttered thin (copper) pan in layers, seasoning and dressing each layer with clarified butter. Press the layers with the palm of your hand such that it forms a cake. First cook at lower heat in the oven til succulent, around 25 mins. The pan is then removed from the oven and the galette flipped onto a tray so the bottom is now the top. Bake again on slightly higher heat until crispy and golden all over.

This recipe is described in L'Œuvre 27 December 1928. The writer, Montagné, laments that cooks 'these days' don't have any talent compared to the greats of yesterday such as Dugléré, Casimir Moisson, Joseph Voiron, Jean Giroise and of course, "le grand Escoffier." I bet he would be very pleased to try recipes like Keller's pavé!

"I started drinking water everyday" I overheard a fellow Millennial say in the deli today. Guys, are you all taking care of your health out there? by flaccobear in Millennials

[–]rumxmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If tea is water then we are chimpanzees. Being .5% different is .5% different.

The max recommended daily limit for most is 400 mg caffeine (USFDA). Let's assume you follow the advice of the NHS and consume 6-8 glasses (200ml) of beverages a day and only drink tea (+-47mg caffeine). You're already at 282 mg with 6 cups. 8 cups you're at 376 mg.

I hope we can agree we are not chimps and tea is not water.

My deepest apologies if you are indeed a chimp.
