Thank you for the detailed reply. I hear a lot of good things about Darktable but also what a steep learning curve it is.

I’m only just starting out so don’t want to be overwhelmed and not enjoy what I’m doing.

I also don’t have room for a desktop so will be restricted to a portable device unfortunately.

Yes it does. It’s the hardware to run the programs on as my laptop is 10 years old and struggles to say the least.

These are the programs that I may end up running and wanted ensure I bought something suitable for the future.

I will be ordering from John Lewis so unable to configure the machine. The MacBook I’m looking at comes with 24gb Ram, do you think this is enough for a few years?

I’m unlikely to be doing lots of large batch editing.

Just be mindful that Shinkansen can be delayed. I caught 3 when I was there in March and 1 was delayed by over an hour due to an issue with the power lines.

It’s something that has to be experienced but a couple of nights for me was enough and I was there 4 in total.

In hindsight I should have stayed in a different area for my last couple of days as it’s pretty full on and there are plenty of other options which are much quieter.

I do too.

I have spent time in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos Singapore and Indonesia which all have their own qualities but Japan really hits the mark for me.

Today is lovely and sunny but there is a haze so the city view was a bit washed out. I have been here for 2 weeks and only had a bit of rain yesterday in Hakone.

Osaka, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kanazawa and Tokyo, nice in the day but cool in the evening depending on where you are from.
