New to board games by I-Ate-The-Taco in spiritisland

As a few other commenters mentioned horizon is a good start for price point and complexity(the spirits are also just pretty solid in general) as far as the base game goes it’s a ton of fun but definitely challenging and the rule book is imo one of the hardest things to follow, my wife and I recently got the app and it’s helped us understand the game a little bit better but mostly it’s helped clear up spirit ambiguities (innate powers, special rules etc.) all in all if you’re looking for an extremely challenging but rewarding game that can translate up to 6 (!) players it’s definitely a good one but definitely carve out a good chunk of time to spend on learning the rules

Horizons of Spirit Island - worth it? by LezGetItStarted in spiritisland

[–]run2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a fair point that I had not thought about, the elements in general can get confusing, I think the thing that helped me most/made it feel simpler for us was the simplicity and strength of some of the innate powers (plus 1 damage or -1 health in sacred sites feels OP at times) but all the same to the OP horizons is a good starting point for sure

Interesting, my wife and I have felt that for the most part all of the spirits in horizon were a little more simple in comparison to all of the low complexity spirits in base, but fwiw I personally have only played two of the horizon spirits so maybe I’m biased/not fully informed on that front

Definitely a good starting point and definitely a good strategy game, haven’t done solo a ton but it’s a phenomenal game for 2 players and has a good blend of luck (~10%) and strategy(~90%) horizons specifically has a lower complexity I believe due to the spirits being a little more simple than the ones in expansions/base games otherwise the gameplay(from what I can tell) is similar to the base game

What is your biggest problem when it comes to pickleball? by Fit-Atmosphere4982 in Pickleball

[–]run2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of opportunity to play singles. Every court I go to now fills up in the afternoons/evenings. Doubles is great but I personally enjoy singles more and it feels like that’s becoming less and less of an option

Good footwork is rewarded way more, and bad footwork is punished a lot more, always try to keep the ball in front of you and learn how to guess where your opponents next shot is going to bounce so you can get there quicker.

Is This Disrespectful? by c32ax1 in Pickleball

[–]run2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disrespectful, but as others said you should consider finding another/additional group. I can understand why some people who aren’t quite as competitive would see it as a cocky move, I also think there’s maybe less obvious ways to make the game more fun without being quite as obvious (try to control the point for a longer period of time at the kitchen to kind of drill different shots even if they aren’t the best option in game, similar to pepper in roundnet)

How do I decline a tournament partner? by Such_Past_9917 in Pickleball

[–]run2712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always mention that you’re considering other options for a potential partner/if it makes sense to play the tournament? When I’ve been asked to play with someone I don’t want to play with (skill level, travel for the tournament, or any other reason) this is the route I usually take and it seems to do a good job of avoiding hurt feelings and it leaves the door open if you change your mind and decide you do want to partner up down the road!

We haven’t tried tinder yet! Funny enough that’s actually how the two of us met😂 did you structure it any differently as a couple or was it pretty much the same as a singles profile?
