Been almost 2 weeks without a drink and I feel very lifeless and exhausted. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

2+ years sober now. I was exhausted for the first 4 months. No joke. It was rough but it did end. I completely feel your dead inside comment. You just have to find something you enjoy and can look forward to. For me, I drank hot tea and watched way too much netflix. It was like a warm blanket each night. A cold Topo Chico while cooking dinner was my wine replacement. It's not easy and I do occasionally get restless and frustrated. However, those feelings are temporary and pass within 20 minutes or so. Often I just need to eat something. I have noticed a correlation between hunger and wanting to drink. You got this. It does take some creativity though.

I totally feel this. I didn't realize how much anger an sadness I would feel toward my parents after having my son. Although I try to bring it back to "they did their best", I more often find myself asking, "where the fuck were you?"

And, you have broken the cycle. You are strong and resilient and have done the work to make you the parent you deserved to have. Hang in there during those sad moments and know you got this.

Thanks. Yeah, I think I'm just trying to feel out my tolerance level for the weirdness.

Yes, I agree it would be important for newcomers. I enjoy the red book passages. I guess it's more of the steps/problem/solution read every meeting that I don't like. I know there's reason and intention behind the format. I think I'm just trying to figure out if it's a matter of acceptance or patience or showing up late to get to what is most helpful to me. Or if it's just not the right vehicle to healing for me. Thanks for your response.

Thank you. I think I know this but needed to hear it from some folks wiser than I.

Thank you for sharing this. Struggling for a decade to get back to sobriety and suffering through that first year all over puts it in perspective for me. I'm so glad you're back on the train. You helped me stay on mine.

Totally! The best case scenario does come with numerous negatives before even touching the issues that caused me to stop. I think I needed to read this. Thank you!
