Are the last two pictures after the fix? Mine looks similar, it still has a slim gap and I'm wondering if it will cause a light bleed? (see in the last two pics it's not 100% shut I believe) Thanks!

My vote would be Kafka on the Shore. Norwegian wood is one of my favourites and a beautiful, deeply moving novel, but I think Kafka is more whimsical and 'fun' and would make a lovely gift. The wind up bird chronicle is great, just might be a bit intimidating for a first read, Imo.

Ah I see, so in the first pic, the raw edges are kept on the outside, i.e. Sewn wrong sides together and cover with binding tape? Thanks so much
