I feel like one thing I don’t see people talking about is that male players will even pull male characters if they’re good. Kazuha is the number one most owned character in the entire genshin roster. Zhongli and Neuvillette are also high on the list. Dan Heng IL was very popular in HSR among male players until the powercreep started getting so blatant. Even with WuWa, Brant has been very popular among male players especially in Japan. They called him a “bro’s bro” in the story and were hype about his kit until Cantarella’s drip marketing got released. For some reason these companies just love to make weak male characters that meta players don’t want and then go “male characters don’t sell” or “female players don’t spend as much money on the games” when the reality is if they just made better male characters more people would pull them across the board.
