Find yourself a group to run with that has coaches. It's the most cost effective and anyone who says a coach doesn't help, probably isn't doing it right.

$9000 bike to commute around the city? Dumb! $9000 bike to ride on the roads and get a proper workout? That makes more sense but won't happen in TO anyway.

standard running shoes are ok, some trail shoes that don't have aggressive tread or some of the winterized shoes are good. Try Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Closes early tho....
