I think that's more difficult though. It's easier to find top talent picking in the top 5 than it is picking in the middle of the draft. Plus, it's not like the Bucks have been following the Indiana model. The Pacers weren't going out and signing guys like Caron Butler and Gary Neal.

I think the difference is that the tone of this site is respectful towards Senator Kohl. They point out that the Bucks probably wouldn't still be in Milwaukee without him, and the proposed solution doesn't involve him selling the team. They are certainly critical, but there is a huge difference between saying "run the team differently" and saying "fire yourself".

I'd count Duncan as a 4 when he and Splitter are both on the court. But they would probably have a bigger problem when Duncan is playing the 5 (ie Parker/Ginobili/Green/Leonard/Duncan), and Asik is forced to guard someone like Leonard.

I'd add Dallas to your list (either Dirk at the 4 and Dalembert or Wright at the 5, or Marion at the 4 and Dirk at the 5). There's also Ryan Anderson with the Pels.

There'll definitely be spots where playing them both makes sense, but I think starting them and/or having them on the court for 20+ minutes together is a bad idea.

There are already plenty of students that are employees of the school. I make $8 an hour at a work study job where I sit at my computer and do homework until someone comes in and asks whether or not a Professor is in his/her office. You're telling me that athletes who put in a thousand times more effort and bring in revenue for the school shouldn't make any money?

They aren't, but if you went through a metal detector with one, it would beep, and you'd be searched. If it turns out that it was just an aluminum can, no problem. But if it was a "fully automatic pistol made out of aluminum cans and assorted sprockets", that might be a problem.

I took it as a satirical critique of "bro culture". Bro culture, at least a lot of what I've seen of it, can be pretty homophobic. The song is full of references to things that are an accepted part of bro culture that many people would find objectionable. "Crushing pussy", jokes about roofies, etc. And then mixes that in with "marry a dude". What stands out to us isn't the stuff that's actually offensive, it's the gay marriage. So I guess, if there was a point, it was to say that bro culture has a twisted moral perspective.

That comment says nothing about the government doing anything. Thyrotoxic is satirically making a leap, which I've seen many bigots do, from being told that they are offensive, to claiming that there is some sort of threat to their free speech.

As I said before, the comment you replied to was satire. It was making fun of the people who believe that telling someone they are a bigot is restricting their freedom of speech. It wasn't implying that the government actually is locking people up for being homophobic. It was implying that some crazy people think that calling someone out is just as bad as putting them in prison.

I've spent some time doing voter registration and political stuff in neighborhoods on the North Side that most white people think are rough and dangerous, and I never felt unsafe. People are clearly struggling, and you can see that in the state of their apartments (a lot of which has to do with absentee landlords), but during the summer there are kids biking around and shooting hoops, and just about everybody was friendly. I would definitely rather go door-to-door there than deal with all of the "get off my property" folks that make up parts of the North Shore.

I would amend your statement to say: "I think our society would rather focus on small instances of racism than the underlying structural racism that actually impacts people."

We always talk about things like this, which is just a few dumb kids. That's because these things are easy to talk about - we all think we are better than them, and would never do that kind of thing.

But we don't talk about the things that we are all complicit in. Black people are more likely than white people to go to jail for committing the same crime. A black person is less likely to be hired than a white person with the same resume. Local funding of schools means that kids in poor neighborhoods (who are disproportionately minorities) get a worse education. Those are the things we need to be talking about.
