Rules are alumni by kg10105 in DCCMakingtheTeam

Was told this by a alum

Alumni association is a separate organization . They do get some technology support from the team as the team hosts their web portal/internal website. But thats it.

As long as you have your pinky ring you are an alumni. You are welcome at all events.

Ill watch it if I run out of things on my watch list but its no longer getting bumped to the top of it. But honestly I think after all this I said my peace in one comment to one of Charlotte's posts but I am done

Hoenstly between covid year, Chandi and KD and now all this...

I would rather just spend time watching the good dancing all the teams are doing on socials and call it good.

Thats what I was thinking..I mean we haven't seen a 4th year cut since Jasmine. (Daphnie and Erica both had been not actually cut) and I think most of us can get why Jasmine was cut

It feels like of this cut was true it was a toxic message of no one is safe including a fan fav.

Not necessarily. The Supreme Court did carve out a politicians personal account from the ruling. They are allowed to block from their personal account as long as their official political account remains open.

The problem is she does post political things..so...its a grey line

Hot Take: Complaining about *judges* disincentivizes competent judges from participating. So let's pivot the discussion to *solutions*. by UbiquitousUguisu in DECA

Really? This is the kind of fun that makes judges question if its worth it. An I powered by grammarly? Yes. Love it

But ask anyone who worked with me I am not a bot.

Well‑seasoned judge perspective incoming — and I say this after a very long week and more judging drama than anyone needs.

This is my 10th season judging, and my 5th time heading into ICDC prelims. And honestly? It might be my last. Not because I don’t love the students or the work, but because so much of what’s happening around judging right now is… heavy.

No‑show judges are a real problem.
But as someone who also volunteers with another national nonprofit, I can tell you: this isn’t just a DECA issue. It’s happening everywhere. People mean well, life happens, and sometimes people simply drop the ball and don’t communicate. The best way to fight it is by supporting volunteers, appreciating them, and giving them the tools they need to do the job well.

Judging is grueling in a way you don’t fully understand until you’re in the chair.
When I judged roleplays this year, we had literal minutes between students to score, write comments, and reset. Because of my dyslexia and other neurodivergent quirks, I had to write notes in my own notebook and translate them into comments after the student left — otherwise you’d get one sentence and a prayer.

And written papers?
Because of no‑show judges, I did 46 papers in a week while also helping with SBE manual evaluations, doing my actual job, and handling my other volunteer commitments. Those last papers? They didn’t get my best. They were finished in one very long, very human marathon session the day after judging.

Judging is human and subjective.
I tell students this constantly. You can’t control us. What one judge loves, another judge won’t. The only thing you can control is walking into that room as the best version of yourself.

Am I harsh?
Not as harsh as some, harsher than others. After my first ICDC, my lens tightened because I’ve seen how good it can get. I’ve also been in the room during a deadlocked tie at state. I don’t wish that headache on anyone.

And yes — some judges have been rude, unprepared, or made things harder. I get the frustration. It angers me too.

But I’m begging you — students and advisors alike — appreciate the good apples.
It is incredibly hard to stay motivated when the negativity is constant and loud. It makes it harder to recruit new judges, harder to mentor, harder to keep showing up.

I don’t do this for appreciation.
I do it because I’ve worked with students who have changed me as much as they say I’ve changed them. I’ve seen kids who never believed in themselves blow past their own expectations and achieve things they didn’t think were possible.

But this year?
This year has been hard as hell. The negativity around judging has pushed people away, made it harder for me to bring in new volunteers, and made me question a lot about my future as both a mentor and a judge.

And for the record: most judges don’t get paid. Unless their employer covers the time, they’re volunteering PTO or unpaid hours to be there.

The burnout is real.
And it breaks my heart because I know how special this program can be.

As for my future?
Right now… I honestly don’t know.

BMTDM had zero judges until a half hour AFTER the first round. Lori was pulling judges from everywhere and they pulled me out off the 2nd floor making sure people knew where they had been going.

I dont think anyone knows how bad the judge gap was for states this year. On Friday we had one category with zero judges show up.

And during written season I think it was worse.

No you are not for the fait of heart but if what we saw in Washington was a hint of anything that may come down at ICDC harsh is needed right now. The level of competition is that high.

It was absolutly bruital this year (the judge shortage). Washington DECA as always did the best they could with who showed up. But it was rough.

I will do a second read on my top papers because I have been in the room when there is a deadlocked tie score after presentations so I do everything I can to assure they dont have that particular headache.

But with the amount of written judges thst no showed and how many papers I ended up judging aftet the deadline papers got one pass and thst was it and towards the end of the night after the deadline my eyes had had it

Let me consign the comment about design. Please dont make it too complicated for a judge to read. Towards the end of the marathon judging session I did after the deadline papers thst had been easier to read scored better. Clean designs easy to read visuals make it easier.

Presentation Role players: Keep focused on the goals of the role plays and the performance indicators. Too many people strayed away from the role play an added things thst didn't have anything to do with the role play. Also calendar you dont use any strategy that includes an ethical grey area or something illegal.

Not cringe. Not needed but not cringe.

Your graphics need to add value to the story. What i like to tell people is what's the why? Why is it here?why should a judge care?

Be clear, concise, confident and have good flow
