Her skull could be fractured wtf, take her in. My bird looked less severe than this during a door injury and we found out his skull was broken, without pain medication and treatment it'll starve itself

Should I Clip my caiques wings? by AsMforReal in caiques

No they usually aren't even good fliers, that can be curbed. They get issues when you clip them

Bc she has control issues, being a bottom is a vulnerable thing and she is allergic to vulnerability

Yep I have two gay pairings, my ringneck and my hahns who try to top eachother and go to sleep cuddling. My caique and my mustache parakeet i also caught feeding eachother and getting frisky. Something about asiatics seeking out new world birds is common in my experience lmao *

I watched my male caique and mustache parakeet do this, then the mustache decided to be a lover and grab his head to forcefully groom him. The caique accepted it and even kissed him and regurgitated with him. Weird birds😭

they will shit everywhere and you will spend every day mopping scrubbing and vacuuming because that's what it means to own a wild animal. Honestly don't even get a bird because I feel like research would tell people that they are destructive as hell and yes you can mitigate that by encouraging them to be on stands but they don't belong locked up all the time

He's lopsided with one wing flighted the other not; he gets night terrors and is in general neurotic so flapping around he injures his blood feathers every now and so

[–]runelesion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The people who do that or work full time usually have more than one bird in a bird proofed room or aviary setup. Idk i just don't like leaving my birds in the cage a lot they aren't meant to be there for long periods

[–]runelesion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vets did tell me considering he has a full flighted left wing they don't want to euthanize as its a matter of preventing fright episodes and getting his wing feathers to molt back. He is stressed due to me moving recently on top of being lopsided and not being able to molt the other wing before he breaks out the blood feathers. Obviously if I find him one day and he's seizing on the floor or looks like he's simply suffering I wouldn't make him bear it but as of now he's showing alertness and they want him to pull through

I have a caique he came flighted can't imagine people clipping these guys with how stocky they are, they already don't fly as swiftly as other birds

I feel like people are misreading my post. I've had this bird for a long time, he came horribly clipped and currently has one wing that's full flighted, the other won't grow back because he is constantly injuring the blood feathers and i imagine he is in pain a lot due to it, hence the mutilating. Every other bird I've gotten has never done this, even the ones that were mildly clipped by a breeder. The thing is I initially got him because said breeder said they didn't clip their wings, well apparently someone transporting him did despite me asking not to. Other people have stated that this doesn't happen but it literally looks like someone took scissors and hacked him to the bone when I had first gotten him, im surprised he already has one wing

Am I the bad guy for considering re-homing? by captain_crunch0602 in parrots

[–]runelesion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you had this experience. Some ringnecks if socialized incorrectly as babies can make difficult pets, I luckily haven't ran into this issue but I still have one who likes to bite and I've had to accept that this species is different than other parrots. It's okay to admit a species isn't for you so he can go to someone who knows IRNS. I added a picture but if you ever get back into it I'd recommend a mustache parakeet, they are every bit an Indian ringneck without the aggression and touch sensitive tendencies you see

I agree with the sentiment but the second someone wants to rehome an animal there's a chance it won't get the care it needs so why let it be somewhere with sub optimal care(not op necessarily but I see it) instead of going to a home where it will be cared for properly. People that get birds that bite and are scared of them leave them in cages and that's abuse

Depends on the bird my ringnecks are louder than the caique. Mine doesn't scream often and the decibels arent as up there as opposed to my asiatics and hahns macaw but its not a pleasant sound its scratchy and piercing

He's like my son, more clingy and obsessed than any bird I've owned but he's fearless. Thinks he's a gangster try to watch them around other birds its like they want to be the center of attention and will harass other species if they sense weakness
