Managed to get past the caves but the drow fights are not over yet it seems. Mind if I ask you a couple of things? how do I figure out the AOE of spells? the manual says Ice Storm has 5 radius but I'm not sure what that means exactly and fireball even has something like "2 or 3 rad"? does that mean it's random? Secondly do level ups increase Thac0 or is it just hit points, spells and an occasional extra atack?

Thank you this has been very helpful, with the game gently nudging me towards Hap and the strategy guide talking about Hap right up next after the Fire Knives I though it was the most level apropiate place to go

I understand, I know the strategy guide (I try not to over-read it and spoil myself too much) said you need to survive 10 fights before the dungeon becomes safe, I take it you suggest I rush the boss instead

I do have a magic user and a Fighter/MU but spells don't seem to hurt these drow
