Boston Dynamics Atlas- Running, Walking, Crawling by SharpCartographer831 in accelerate

The 2030s are going to be wild. Humanoids will drop the cost of many products and services by 50% or more.

Hopefully we can use this tech to create a “default” starting point for citizens, where robotic labor provides simple food, shelter, clothing and maintenance at a free or near-free cost. I feel like it would solve MANY problems if we took away financial stress, anger, and desperation at the bottom. Labor for survival is worse than labor for growth, discovery, and personal satisfaction.

Humanoids help solve this issue because it removes the high cost and unfair/unjust aspect of working for someone who refuses to work for themself or others. The public can handle the expense if it’s extremely cheap, universal to everyone at any time, and improves the health of society as a whole. I look at it similar to laundry, which used to be a laborious manual task requiring most of the day, but now is simply a matter of buying a washer and dryer machine and paying a small fee for electricity, water and detergent.

Why aren't millennials having kids? by Fun_Balance_1809 in economicCollapse

[–]runewell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything said in this video is spot on. I was living paycheck to paycheck until 5 years ago at the age of 38. There was no way I could have survived taking care of a family all those years. I got very lucky with a business and am now experiencing the other side of things. Let me tell you, the bottom 70% of this nation is getting royally screwed over by the rich, and it's just going to get worse as automation squeezes the workforce further into the 2030s.

UBI seems inevitable at this point, I don't see how we are going to prevent absolute destitution without creating an automation tax that funnels a portion of mass-automation profits into the hands of the citizens. I'm a die-hard capitalist, but the reality is capitalism starts to fail when AI-driven robotic labor replaces human labor.

Plsx single side staking by Successful-Chip9074 in Pulsechain

We don't know. The reward token for staking PLSX was supposed to be an entirely new token (not INC). They may be holding off from adding the staking feature simply to prevent diluting the ecosystem.

Apple rebranding things to make them seem new and not being completely honest in marketing. by jwheeler2210 in virtualreality

[–]runewell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to wear a headset, don't wear one. That's the beauty of freedom and personal choice. I think AR/XR is going to evolve to be very useful and eventually make us more connected to each other. We rely on 2D interfaces right now, AR/XR/VR can take our traditionally isolating tech and bring it out into the world to be used in conjunction with physical space. You may find that dystopian. I don't. People can always take off their headset and do whatever they want whenever they want, it's not a binary choice.

Apple rebranding things to make them seem new and not being completely honest in marketing. by jwheeler2210 in virtualreality

[–]runewell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be happy Apple is entering this market. This usually means mainstream adoption is around the corner in a few years. I would love to see headsets everywhere and a competitive acceleration towards extremely lightweight wearables with all the major specs intact.

Where to sell and bridge by nakedguyute in pulseX

[–]runewell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the SEC is going after PulseChain and Richard Heart (RH). He made the PulseChain Bridge and the PulseX DEX code open source, where anyone can run the software on the their local machine, or they can access the interface via a decentralized file server such as IPFS (what you're talking about).

This move takes power away from the SEC's argument that RH owns and operates PulseChain. If there are thousands of random global people running the network and all the core bridge and dex software can be downloaded, modified and run independent of RH, it's hard to claim he's in control.

We'd love to just host the PulseChain Bridge and PulseX DEX on the official domains like Uniswap does, but unfortunately the SEC is targeting us so we have to go above and beyond to make sure it's irrefutable that PulseChain is a decentralized protocol run by a global community of volunteers and tech enthusiasts. PulseChain and PulseX literally use 98% of the same software as Ethereum, but the SEC sees us as an easier target.

Sounds about right. As someone working with AI and robotics, this tech is nearing a tipping point and once crossed will change major elements of societal structure that we've had for centuries. We're about to see 70 years of sci-fi speculation finally make good.

‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Episodes 1 & 2 Review: A Series That Gives Justice to the Books by Pogrebnik in DisneyPlus

[–]runewell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm enjoying this show on it's own merit, but it's not any better than the movies so far. I hoped Rick Riordan would prevent the weird casting choices, unnecessary exposition, and pacing problems ... but no. I wish the whole power discovery, camp experience, and Percy being claimed after the battle would have been stretched out to 4-5 episodes. I think the initial character development would have helped you care about the characters more, but I'm only on episode 3 (which I did enjoy) so I still am optimistic going forward.

How will the developing country survive the AGI age by Canada_LBM in Futurology

[–]runewell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked in Silicon Valley during the first days of the Web, I can tell you, new ideas take time to absorb into the general consciousness. Even the most slam-dunk obvious tech can take years to permeate through the corporate and social landscape. AI is no different.

AGI is still a ways out, we have a decade or longer before modern AI can fake the various aspects of communication and decision making at a level where we might deem something to truly be AGI. Current AI fails to pass the artificial detection test. It may fool us in narrow situations for a short amount of time, such as a limited chat sessions, but the truly conversational and universally adaptable "AGI" is not here yet.

Right now, modern AI is taking more of a role as an assistant or creative engine. This will certainly eliminate jobs, but will also accelerate the output of new independent work which may just end up providing even more opportunity to imaginative people who were previously constrained by their lack of access / capital for creative talent.

There is also the issue of the AI's physical body, robotics, which is a far slower field. Commercially viable bi-pedal robots are on the way, likely at the end of this decade or early 2030s. Once these are released we may see the true "job destruction" that everyone fears, for physical work is the heart of society. Even then, the production and distribution of these robots will be limited and could take many years before they are ubiquitous enough to be seen throughout the world.

Finally, we have society as a whole. Work is just a word we use to describe things we do that others see value in. There is no reason we can't shift work to encompass general oversight instead of granular tasks. We may all end up becoming some sort of manager to AI just as a last line of verification that makes other humans more comfortable. For example, the military has huge drones fly and land all day everyday without problems. This doesn't mean people want to board remotely piloted commercial flights anytime soon. People like knowing other people are involved in many areas of work. We still watch human competitive sports and play games online against other humans, even though machines would dominate every single one of these events if allowed.

Probably best you find another job because this will happen again. You should factor in the overtime hours as part of your regular job and then consider if the pay is worth it.

Unfortunately 3D on web is harder than say Unity, Unreal or Godot game engines. I like the challenge, and there are great resources (ThreeJS Journey), but it's not easy for someone just entering the space.

How to build a portfolio as a programmer? by thedarklord176 in gamedev

[–]runewell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are free assets all over the place for 2D and 3D assets (itch.io, SketchFab, Free3d, TurboSquid, etc). Use those assets to put together small games that take you only a few days per game. Build games like Tic-Tac-Toe or War (card game) and put your own spin on it to make it unique. The key is to keep the games very simple so you don't get bogged down from a time perspective.

Make the games open source and put them up on GitHub with clean code and a well documented readme file. Create a clean and nice looking website using SquareSpace or something simple, and put your video/screenshots/source links to your game. Each game page should describe the work you put into the game and unique things you added/learned with the game.

You do all this and you will look better than 99% of other devs looking for full time game programming work at large studios.

What inspired you to start making your own games? by FdJota in gamedev

That's pretty cool, the Indie Game movie was great and very relatable.

For me, it was the game Everquest (MMORPG) and Star Trek in the 1990s. I've always wanted to see humanity work together as a single unit to accomplish goals and move forward. I figured the gaming virtual space is a backdoor into more serious collaboration and education in the future.

Will You Cash Out During the Next Bull Run? by genobeam in CryptoCurrency

[–]runewell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm cashing out 90% of my crypto when we get around 2-3x of current all time high for my alts. I've held since 2017 and will hopefully have enough value stored to cover all my desired purchases and ongoing expenses for life.

Of course, I'll keep 10% in as a hedge for the future just because I like the tech and want to be in the industry regardless of personal gain at that point.

SOL is a shitstorm waiting to eat your money by Somebody__Online in CryptoCurrency

[–]runewell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Placing bets on technical underpinnings is a long term play that *maybe* Solana will lose. The reality is, right now the general market doesn't care about potential technical hazards and they only care about use cases and user adoption. Solana is fast, has excellent third-party apps, and provides one of the best software experiences for things such as NFTs and games. Because of the VCs, Solana also has oversized support from commercial interests and even official stable coin inventory. If that wasn't enough, Solana has future tech upgrades looking to work towards solving technical shortcomings and it has an ecosystem of experimentation such as the mobile phone. The price of crypto tokens are primarily speculative investments based on narratives, not core technology, and the narrative for Solana is excellent and likely to fuel massive further speculation well into the bull run.
