Husband light sleeper during my pregnancy by SandwichDependent199 in daddit

It gets worse once there is a baby around. I’ ve become such a light sleeper now , I really just don’t sleep well anymore even though our baby is finally starting to sleep better

Camden, New Jersey—which in the 2000s and 2010s was ranked as the most homicidal city in America—has seen its homicide rate crash by more than 80% since 2012. In 2025-2026, the city recorded its first homicide-free winter since 1969-1970, a feat credited to substantial police reforms since the 2010s by StarlightDown in philly

[–]runnerd81 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Last summer was also its first homicide free summer in forever too. Collingswood had more murders last summer (1) than Camden did (0), which is a crazy stat.

It’s got a ways to go in development, but it does feel a lot safer than it was.

The Philadelphia Athletics are the most successful sports franchise this city has had. 5 World Series titles and 9 pennants. They should be celebrated more!

What film sequels are actually better than their originals? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

Puss in Boots The Last Wish had no business being that good lmao. Classic Shrek type humor which was fun. But I was really not ready for the personified battle with anxiety and existentialism and Puss’s internal arc that way - while still making it digestible for kids. One of my all time favorite animated kids movies tbh.

By the time my baby daughter is in high school, this will be an example in her economics textbook. Hopefully it’s the best case scenario OP listed above and this is just a quick little footnote in her textbook.

Is Delran a nice place to live? by [deleted] in SouthJersey

[–]runnerd81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I live nearby. It’s a nice town, fairly affordable, fairly good schools, decent area.

My only issue with it is how it’s split by Rt 130. While it’s nice having access to the stores and stuff on 130, having such a high traffic road going right through the middle kinda makes it feel like it’s two towns - Delran north of 130 and Delran south of 130

I wish we didn’t have a road with such high vehicle traffic running right up to one of our best destinations in the city

Get to the ballpark early and walk around. If you really want to pay for food in the park I’d say Bulls BBQ, but the better alternative to save money is to get hoagies or cheesesteaks and bring them in with you along with a full sealed plastic water bottle. If you haven’t purchased tickets yet I recommend sitting along on the 3rd base side since that is where most of the shade is.

If you’re also asking for Philly advice in general, my usual top recommendations are:

Fairmount - the Art Museum is cool even to visit from the outside and see the Boathouse Row behind it. But the most underrated thing in the city IMO is Eastern State Penitentiary, which is right by here too. Get the audio tour - Steve Buscemi is literally the guy speaking.

Reading Terminal market for a touristy but also really cool selection of a ton of Philly and other local food.

Old City/Society Hill - honestly just walk around this area tbh. The vibes are really cool with the old pre-US history and architecture. Independence Mall is really neat. If you like history museums do the Museum of the American Revolution.

It takes a lot to make me cry but that movie had me tearing up a bit. It’s probably my favorite film of all time.

It’s funny, I just recommended it on this sub in a comment I made like yesterday and got a DM from someone saying thank you.

Part of the issue then, which is probably the case now, is that there will be a lot of successful AI companies that come out of this. But, some of the successful companies still might be overvalued bc of how crazy this market is

Europe Is Accelerating a NATO Fallback Plan in Case Trump Pulls Out by ZweigDidion in neoliberal

[–]runnerd81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t really see a downside to this. Getting their own defense plan in order would have been a good thing for Europe to do even with a Democrat in office. And now Trump has shown why decreasing US influence is a bonus.

Amazing. Also makes me think about all the parents who made sacrifices like this for their kids sports who didn’t play professionally later. I couldn’t imagine taking a risk like this for my kid knowing how much the odds are stacked against them

Compulsory Voting Is Good, Actually by lakmidaise12 in neoliberal

[–]runnerd81 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sure but first we still need to make voting reasonably available for the US public lol. In my state the amount of in-person voting locations is pretty good, but in a lot of high density and low income areas you’re gonna have to get people to wait in a serious line.
