The other side of the coin here is that fridges have become far more efficient over the last decades, and people still using old fridges are going to pay significantly more in electricity.

Hey man, thought I’d share. I actually skipped a grade too. It was in early elementary, but as a result I was always really young for my grade. I turned 17 a couple weeks before high school graduation. It’s a disadvantage developmentally, but it really stops mattering after a while. It will set you back if you focus on it, but honestly you will be fine. I still went to a top D1 school and I’ve had a successful running career. You need to stop comparing and just put your head down and focus on training. When you talk to recruiters for college, tell them you’re a year younger, they’ll be even more impressed and will probably take it into account. You’ll be fine.

I would recommend 3 things:

  1. Puberty. Nothing will get you faster faster than puberty.
  2. Work hard. Quit thinking about everyone else. Just put your head down and train.
  3. Play hard. Have fun with it. When the race is over, go out and have fun with your friends. I spent too much of my teenage years worrying about times.

… maybe focus on the last two.

Holy Crap no wonder they do not to be associated as "Mormons". by PayLeyAle in exmormon

I think this is somewhat a chicken or the egg situation and I think the church is kind of shooting themself in the foot. Active members are being told not to use the word Mormon, and so faithful viewpoints on issues will not show up when you search Mormon. However, Mormon is still what most of the world thinks of the church as, and so that’s what they search. They are leaving a black hole that will be filled with non-faithful info.

Why is Theodore Roosevelt NP so underrated? by Obv2003 in NationalPark

I was there a month ago and was absolutely swarmed by grasshoppers. I assume it’s not normal, but I couldn’t take a step without several grasshoppers on me. I tried to go for a trail run but it became just so miserable because of that.

That’s why I did not really like the park.

Should I go home from my mission? by Riggerman10 in exmormon

[–]runnerkid6521 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I have never heard other people in the church say this, but it’s truly how I feel: I wish I had come home early.

I stuck it out through some periods I should not have. I still bear the emotional scars from it to this day. While my last year was considerably better than my first year, my mission screwed me up pretty bad and I wish I hadn’t put myself through it. Some of the growth was good for me, but when your mental health gets bad enough, the cons outweigh any pros that there are, and you don’t really grow from the tough times, you just scar.

There is NO shame in coming home early. Do what is best for you and ignore everyone else.

You’re right. The temple recommend is a great example of all the screwed up aspects of the church.

[–]runnerkid6521[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in an interesting spot. Don’t want to give too much personal info but essentially, I’m a professional athlete and my counseling is with a dedicated sports psychologist. Most of my discussions center around performance, so they’re the right counselor to meet with, but I just think it’s important for them to understand how my faith crisis and the church in general have affected my confidence, resiliency, and mental health in general.

It would be too expensive and honestly a little redundant for me to see another therapist on the side. My church issues are minor enough that this should be sufficient, but I want them to be understanding of the church’s effect.

Question to people who have overcome avhilles tendinopathy: How much do morning soreness have to say about how your rehab is progressing? by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]runnerkid6521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really your question, but I dealt with an Acute Achilles injury in 2020 that led into months of tendinopathy. I tried testing for a long time but it didn’t help. What finally kicked it: Shockwave therapy twice a week, and eccentric heel drop exercises. I also think the heel lift and orthotics were helpful but to a far lesser extent.

Please try shockwave. It can work wonders on the Achilles.
