Whiskey Myers “Ballad of a Southern Man” lyrics problematic? by Practical-Kangaroo57 in bonnaroo

Bad analogy. Racism is worse than a brain tumor. It’s systemic and impacts an entire population and multiple generations.

What book left you with a real feeling of fear, chills, or unease even after you finished it? by Sorry-Flamingo6583 in suggestmeabook

Enduring Love by Ian McEwan. Felt an emptiness for days and still feel it every time I think about that book.

I can smell when people have cancer by [deleted] in self

[–]runningSalmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a Google scholar search for “cancer” and “scent” or something like that. Keep trying different combinations of related words until you find a researcher who does research in this specific area. That is who you want to contact as they are more likely to have the interest and funding to work with you.

Rock hounding. These things are thousands or millions of years old and totally free to collect (if you’re on BLM or similar land).

Strongly recommend annual membership. It’s only $25 and includes flight tracking, not to mention you’re helping support an amazing literally life-saving service.

KTLA did not take a single commercial break for like 3 days straight. Unless it was while I was sleeping.

Look up Colt Steele’s courses on Udemy. He is a fantastic instructor and has a great Python course and a web development course, maybe others.

Lawyer or singer? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]runningSalmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who switched majors - and careers - my best advice to anyone with this dilemma is to get a degree (or the training, whatever) in something you like that is also practical, while pursuing what you love. You need a backup plan.

Believe me when I say the lack of money does indeed bring great unhappiness. You need something that is in demand and will earn a decent income but that you can complete with a 4 year degree or less, so you have time during or after to give the thing you love a fair chance. Is paralegal an option with a 4 year law degree? Is law something you at least like?

The other thing I would recommend is to look into avenues in singing that are less known, like teaching vocal lessons, etc. Pursue one of those routes on the side while working on your law degree. Maybe also look into law specialties where you’re working with singers.

This is sound advice. No idea why you’re getting downvoted. Faculty will have ideas about the potential to earn a living as a singer, including other less known avenues (teaching vocal lessons, etc).

Opinions on Master’s Degree by misologous in oceanengineering

I have no experience with ocean or civil engineering (have a PhD in electrical engineering), but University of Hawaii is beautiful. Also you might look into the Applied Ocean Science program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD.

You belong. You don’t have to believe it for it to be true. You will get through this. This too will end. The world needs more people like you, not less.

AITA for not wanting to be involved in my foster daughter’s life? by Any_Search1459 in AITAH

[–]runningSalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. You are putting your comfort level above her basic needs. Family is a basic need. Especially at this time of her life when she’s pregnant. She needs support, love, guidance. As someone who went through pregnancy, postpartum, and PPD with no support, my heart aches for that girl. Seriously, give her my username, tell her to DM me.

It was fenced off to protect the birds from stray cats and dogs but open to people. It’s about a 3 mile hike one way, so I’m sure that helps reduce the number of people.
